Review of Amia's Path
Amia’s Path by Paula Watson shares Amia’s reflections on her life's journey of faith, where God is always present.
Amia grew up surrounded by the church, raised in faith, and devoted to God. As she got older and left home for college, her circumstances changed, but she continued to meet people who reminded her of God every day.
Later, Amia joined the military, met her husband, and had two sons. With frequent relocations during her years of service, she found herself going to church and thinking about God less often. On the outside, her life seemed smooth, but there was a voice inside that kept telling her something was not right.
Amia tried to ignore it until one day, a serious accident happened to her son. That event struck her and made her realize how much she had been neglecting her faith. She then learned to trust in God again and returned to attending church services regularly. Because she made Him her first priority in life, she found herself in a more joyful and fulfilling place.
Through Amia’s meditations on her relationship with God, readers are reminded that God never leaves anyone’s life, even when they stop listening to Him. Her journey also testifies to how powerful it is to put faith in Him completely and let Him lead the way.
The book also shows the importance of a strong foundation of faith for a child’s growth. Amia was fortunate to have a mother who diligently taught her about Jesus Christ, the meaning of religious holidays, and gratitude. Unfortunately, her own children did not have the same childhood experiences, and without God’s guidance, their lives seemed to take a more difficult path.
The book is a quick, easy, and inspiring read that can be finished in one or two hours. The author takes a simple and direct writing approach to convey her message. It is the message of keeping God present in our daily lives.
Overall, I enjoyed the book; however, I sometimes felt that the descriptions were not engaging enough. If Amia’s inner struggles were explored in more detail, I think the story might have had a greater emotional impact. Therefore, I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. It is a great recommendation for Christian readers. Non-Christians might also find it meaningful for its exploration of faith in one’s life.
