The Life and Times of a Governor’s Daughter by Victoria Edwards is an autobiography of the author, Victoria Edwards. She talks about how she battled with depression early on in her life. The author also mentions that she barely remembers anything from the ages 20 to 35. In 1987, after seeing a psychiatrist, Victoria decides to leave Louisiana for New York. It is a shocking decision that will change the rest of her life. Victoria also talked about how she moved a lot and how she once allowed a man, Bernard Hocke, to rent a room in her house because he promised to help with her son. The book then goes on to talk about her other life experiences.

I enjoyed reading the book; it was filled with honesty; the author did not try to portray herself as a saint. She told it how it was, whether good or bad. Victoria is a fighter, and that is what I love the most about her. She could have given up many times, but she chose to keep on fighting. Her life should serve as an example to all who read this book. I can imagine what the pressure of being the governor's daughter must feel like. There will always be expectations from you to act in a morally upright manner. It is way different from being the child of a musician or an actor. I also like how tight-knit her family was. They loved each other above all else.

As much as I loved the book, it was not structurally arranged. I had difficulties processing some of the information. The pacing was inconsistent. For these reasons, I give this book a rating of four out of five stars. It was professionally edited. I recommend this book to all who are related to celebrities. It is not easy as you journey that path alone.
