It seems like the author was a hero once for sure. The narrative is compelling, illustrating a journey marked by personal struggle, activism, and transformation. His experiences reflect the complexities of war, peace movements, and cultural intersections, particularly through his support for both Vietnam and Soviet veterans. The evolution of his personal life alongside his activism adds depth to his story, showcasing resilience and the pursuit of meaningful connections.

I really like that this book offers a personal perspective on some major events like the Vietnam War and Standing Rock protests. Mahoney’s journey shows how complicated being a hero can be and I think that honest approach is important for anyone wanting to make a difference. thank you for the insightful review.
