This sounds like one of those books that would help lift the positive spirit within people. And I like that it's a quick read. I find that short books on self-help genre convey the message more than long dragging ones. Enjoyed your review Gerry. thank you so much.

Do you postpone pursuing your dreams because you lack self-confidence? Are you constantly worried about how other people think of you? Are you unhappy because of negative thoughts and self-hate? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should read Self Love: Journal Your Journey by Natalie Bears.

I believe that most individuals tend to have more negative thoughts about themselves than positive ones. For many, it's a struggle to balance negative thoughts with feel-good moments and small victories. Why can’t people feel happy most of the time? The author addresses this problem by posing thought-provoking questions, using positive language, and coaching the reader to change their negative mindset to a positive one.

I found Bears’ writing style uplifting, supportive, and humorous. The author wrote a comment that resonated with me and made me chuckle. It was: “What other people think of you is none of your business now or ever.” As I continued reading, I thought, "This is positive guidance many people need."

Bears started the book’s chapters with quotes from famous people about self-love and making a difference in the world. These famous people included Mother Teresa, Charlie Chaplin, Oscar Wilde, Buddha, Steve Maraboli, Audrey Hepburn, Anne Frank, Laverne Cox, Sally Field, and Mahatma Gandhi. These quotes added credibility to the guidance offered by Bears. At the end of each chapter, Bears posed a thought-provoking question and encouraged the reader to keep a journal of their thoughts, intentions, and things that made them happy. The journal was intended to bolster the reader’s commitment to positive change.

I liked that the book was relatively short in length. I read it in two hours. The repetition of ideas throughout the book was necessary to drive home the salient points. It was a form of cheerleading and did not bore me. However, there were a couple of downsides. The author used some run-on sentences that were difficult to understand, and I noticed some hard-to-ignore grammar mistakes.

Overall the book was inspiring, eye-opening, supportive, and convincing. Anyone who reads this book will learn to love themselves and stop worrying about what other people think of them.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. I deducted one star because of the mentioned downsides. Professional editing will help to remedy these problems.

I am not sure that I could find this narrative too relatable, as I do not usually feel worried about how others perceive me. It is important to me, but it isn't something I actively have anxiety about. This book sounds interesting nonetheless! I do find run-on sentences quite bothersome, sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out. For these reasons, I might take my time with prioritizing this one. However, it sounds like it could have some nice messages for people who struggle with anxiety and self perception! And for that reason, perhaps I should keep an eye out for this one, as it may very well be an enjoyable read based on your review.

Thank you!
I am an avid reader. I typically read 1-2 books per week. I enjoy a wide array of genres including Sci Fi, Action/Thriller, and Historical Fiction.

As a geologist and christian, I also particularly enjoy books on science and faith.

I agree that most of us tend toward negative self-talk and constant criticism of the things that we say and do. This book sounds like a useful tool for helping ourselves break the habit. I like the idea of the quotes at the beginning of the chapters and the questions for us at the end of the chapters. I also like that it’s relatively short. But I have a hard time getting past the obvious grammatical errors. Thanks, Gerry!

The cover of this book is entrancing. It's rare to see monochrome on recent self-help books. The brevity of the books also enhances its charm. I love the concept of self-acceptance that you mentioned. It's unfortunate that the positive aspects could not outweigh the poor editing, though.

This seems like a book that I will like reading and benefit from too. It is nice to learn from your review that the author blends the subject well with humor. The book is not available on Amazon at the moment, but I'll keep an eye for it. Great evaluation and summary of the book as always.

I have tried to keep journals before but I always end up writing about what went wrong. It sounds like this book might help me flip that around and actually focus on the good for once. thanks for the insightful review.
