The Right Path, by Joe Scarborough

Post by stefanpaxton »

The Right Path was a book that I saw suggested on one of my favorite shows, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart where a short discussion was made in regards to Mr. Scarborough's book. As a young man with political aspiration and republic influences, I had a strange craving to get in between the covers of this republican recovery book where I was actually pleasantly surprised by the intensity and passion that I could feel flowing from each line of literature.

It was a surprise to say the least, rather than reading through what I believed to be the casual "I know all the solutions" book, it was actually primarily a history lesson through the majority of the pages. Exposing what the Republicans have done wrong and right through their history; exposing some serious questions and opening eyes to obvious solutions that weren't even spoken of directly but hinted briefly at with his carefully guided words. Easily 90% of the book was a history lesson that recorded the results and gave a strictly business view on each of the main Republicans from Ike to Reagan; with the last 10% giving Joe's personal views on how a modern republican can run and win, and more over how the modern republican party can regain their power an influence without seeming like a bunch of crazed philosophers stuck in the 1950's.

I think Mr. Scarborough's approach was effective, informing the reader of the republican party past and rather than handing out solid answers, allowing the reader to think of solutions, giving just enough hints and guidance to insure that a conclusion could and would be made. Not only did I get a lot of questions answered, I also learned a lot of important history lessons over some quality presidents, congressmen, and senators; offering myself with a new perspective on the G.O.P. That being said, I think anyone that is looking to run as a republican in a political office, or even a democrat, should read this book. If not to learn more about your party, yourself, and gaining some valuable strategies, then to learn more about your potential competing party and of course, developing strategies in the future.
