In my opinion, the subject matter of this book is very complex but also very important. If you want your business to become successful, your brand must be recognizable and respected, so while I didn't get most of the terminology used yet, I appreciate the effort to teach valuable skills of "mastering brand momentum and brand velocity is the secret to building a brand that lasts" and gratefully accept the gift. Congratulations on BOTD!

"Brand Momentum" by Tony Lewis is a book about how a successful company grows its brand. Tony Lewis has found that mastering brand momentum and brand velocity is the secret to building a brand that lasts for many years. This book can be used as a self-help guide for marketers to learn and master this secret. Tony has been in this business for more than 40 years and he has applied his process that begins with research to create strategies to improve brand mass, i.e. the number of a brand's users and brand momentum. He has conducted research on the most effective means of advertising for both startups and large established businesses. This book focuses on recommendations that are backed by statistics from surveys conducted and research on existing brands. Tony also references other books written by other authors whose ideas and processes are quoted in this book. He also used imagery to help readers visualize scenes such as a tennis serve to pass across his points. The notes he included throughout the book are very helpful for better understanding his thought processes. For example, “Big brands in motion are hard to stop, but so are smaller brands that are going even faster. Having majored in Marketing 50 years ago I can see how these concepts need to be added to today’s text books since Marketing is always changing. It is not just the four Ps: Price, Product, Place and Promotion that were the foundation for a well-known Marketing text book written by Phillip Kotler that was used in most universities in the 1970s. Marketing research has always been needed, but as Tony has shown the types of research are constantly evolving because competition is always trying to exceed what other successful companies have accomplished. When I chose my major after taking all of the required introductory business courses, I decided Marketing was for me because it is always changing and answers are not found in a text book like accounting and finance. I concentrated on accounting, statistics and finance in my MBA program since businessmen must have a solid understanding of these fields to operate a successful company. Too many companies want to conduct research but they rush into research and fail to develop a plan and therefore waste a lot of time and money that produces research findings that do not answer the objectives. To properly research products one has to totally understand the products and how they meet consumer needs. Tony used statistics from surveys conducted and research on already existing brands that users relate to like Coca Cola and Pepsi while he used familiar brands like Amazon when discussing a brand’s purpose and vision. Tony developed a Brand Velocity Score whether a brand is thriving or merely surviving. BVS not only reflects current brand perception but also predicts future trajectory.

In Brand Momentum, Tony Lewis presents a compelling and practical guide for businesses, marketers, and entrepreneurs who seek to elevate their brand presence in an increasingly competitive market. With years of hands-on experience, Lewis combines strategic insights with actionable advice, making this book both informative and accessible to readers of all levels.

The book revolves around a central concept: that building a strong brand is not a one-time effort but a continuous process — a "momentum" that needs to be nurtured and maintained. Lewis breaks down the core components of brand building, including customer engagement, authenticity, consistency, and adaptation. His approach is refreshingly realistic, acknowledging that brand growth is a journey full of learning curves, rather than a destination.

What stands out is the author’s emphasis on emotional connection. Lewis argues that brands that resonate emotionally with their audience tend to thrive in the long run. This idea is supported by real-world examples and case studies that add credibility to his arguments.

One of the book’s strengths is its structure. Each chapter builds on the previous one, gradually guiding the reader from foundational principles to advanced branding strategies. The writing is clear and concise, and the tone remains professional yet approachable throughout.

However, at times, some concepts feel slightly repetitive, especially in the mid-section of the book. A bit more focus on digital brand momentum in today’s social media-heavy world could have added greater depth for modern entrepreneurs.

Despite that, Brand Momentum is a valuable resource for anyone serious about building and sustaining a brand that stands out and connects. Whether you're launching a new venture or revitalizing an existing brand, this book offers a roadmap grounded in clarity and strategy.

Verdict: A thoughtful, practical guide for modern brand builders. Recommended for entrepreneurs, marketers, and business leaders aiming to create lasting brand impact.
