Yamani : The Inside Story by Jeffrey Robinson is a brilliantly written portrait of one of the most powerful and the most interesting characters that the last century had to offer to humanity. As the Petroleum Minister for Saudi Arabia and a very powerful member of OPEC, it would be fair to say that Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani single handedly shaped the world economy for 25 years. It is a treat to get to look at this character upclose and personal. Jeffrey Robinson did an amazing job presenting us Mr Yamani.

As soon as the story starts the reader loves Zaki Yamani. Even if the reader is not interested in politics or oil industry, just reading about him and Saudi royal life and Arabian life style keeps them interested in the book as a whole. While the world loved and blamed Yamani in the 1970`s , now with this book we can actually for the first time see the other side of the story of the famous oil crisis, the oil ambargo that shaped the world economy for years.

I believe it is a privilage to read this book because it will enlighten you about how the politics works and how there are always 3 sides of the story. My side, your side and the truth. Jeffrey Robinson, after meeting with Yamani hundreds of times and interviewing hundreds of people who played major and minor parts in those years, presents us the truth as humanly as possible. We get to realize that a man who seems to have it all actually had a life of stress, fear and worries. That's when we identify with the man and love him.

The style of the author is smooth and seamless. From the introduction we understand that he has a personal relationship with Yamani and his family, yet he managed to stay perfectly objective while writing this book. He also avoided overdeveloping the character so even though the subject is complicated the read turns out to be an easy one.The effort he put on this story can be easily seen. Every topic is detailed and presented with more than one perspective.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars . I recommend it to everyone as it is an excellent example of investigative journalism. The book is intended for everyone because it involves politics, oil industry, suspense, human nature, behind the scenes of the obvious. You name it and this book has it. ENJOY...
