You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

Post by BookFever »

The full title is You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life, but that wouldn't fit in the subject line.

This book. Where do I even start? You know those personal trainers/boot camp instructors who remind you of someone who might be in charge of basic training for the Army? Jen Sincero is kind of like that, but in a wonderful, wonderful way. She is straightforward, honest, and calls you out on your negative thoughts and can't-do attitude without ever having met you. She is amazing.

Through anecdotes, inspirational quotes, and invaluable advice, Sincero gets you to think about what it is you really want out of life and exactly what you need to do to achieve your goals. She demands of you that you recognize that badass inside of you who is screaming and clawing at its will to come out. Going through a career change? She can help. Feeling the need to reinvent yourself whether you've been in the work force for a day or 50 years? She can help. Do you need to get rid of the negativity in your life because it's bringing you down? Do you want bigger and better things for yourself/your family? Do you need an attitude change? Do you want to take a huge risk and aren't sure where the jumping off point is? Do you wish you had more self-confidence? A better social life? All of that and more - she can help!

Even if you're not one for self-help books (I used to be the person who would cringe at the category name, alone) or think you don't need any help getting to where ever it is you're going: Read this book. In the big picture, it cannot hurt but it absolutely will help.

I was gifted this book by a good friend who knows that I am at a bit of a crossroads in my life. Mentally, I was so all over the place with what direction I want my career to go in, where I want to live, what kind of life I want to lead. Sincero's sense of humor, personal experiences, and astounding ability to make you feel like she's a friend you've known for a long time were exactly what I needed. They made this book easy to read and enjoyable, but, more importantly, useful.

If you nodded your head in agreement to anything I've written above, you need to read this book.
