Daring Greatly by Brene Brown Thumbs Up

Post by joanofarc2015 »

Have you ever thought vulnerability could be a good thing? Have you seen as a key in having successful and hapy relationships in your family? Work area? And most importantly...yourself?
"Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead" by Brene Brown is a a great motivational book for those who want to find more about themselves and vulnerability. Brene tackles shame, self-worth, engagement, body image issues, and more. She does this by relating her research with people of all kinds of statuses. She also tells her experience as a mother, friend, and wife. The book has few faults and several good features I'm glad to share with you.
Why "Thumbs Up" this Book?
The author defines vulnerability as an essential key to life because it is by "daring greatly" and showing your true self in all life's areas. She has good stories of mothers, husbands, wives, teachers, successful businessmen, and students that the reader can relate to when dealing with self-worth and shame to be vulnerable. These all testimonies from her research. Brown introduces shame and how people use to prevent vulnerability when it is needed most. She also gives easy strategies on how to be shame resilient and more vulnerable.
The Few Faults
Brown uses a lot of headings in a chapter. It can be difficult for a reader who wants to categorize or organize ideas by each concept introduced. These concepts like shame, humiliation, love, engagement, etc.
"Daring Greatly" is an awesome book if you want to discover more about yourself and how vulnerability can make you shine anywhere you go. You will learn to love yourself a bit more and how to build good relationships with others. You will be inspired by Brown, her research, and her testimonies of vulnerable but brave people.
What do you find difficult about being vulnerable? Share your ideas now.

I went to the book talk on Daring Greatly and got to meet Brene after she introduced this new addition to her collection. It was a life-changing experience and she moved everyone in the room with her honesty and thoughtfulness. I love that she is creates change in society through bringing these tough topics to light and helping everyone discover that they are not alone. Since reading the book I have frequently asked myself, "is this an opportunity to be vulnerable and to life 'wholeheartedly'?" This book is a gift to everyone who reads it, and she continues to give and develop her ideas in the book she published after this one called "Rising Strong." I highly recommend all books by Brene Brown.
