Thanks PowderBlue. I am also not a fan of the self-help genre, but I really liked this book. :)

What makes this book interesting is that it's about real people and how they overcame personal obstacles to get to their goals.Reading someone's life story is really interesting especially when it comes to the deep troughs and to the eventual mountain top. There is a good range of people represented here, so I'm sure this book will be able to help people be informed about proper ways to get in shape and also be motivated to perhaps change to a positive direction. The content embodies the essence of the human spirit; the great accomplishments we can all achieve if we really want it.

I totally agree. I particularly liked that the author included people of different ages and reasons for getting in shape. Many people will think getting in shape is solely about a way to lose weight. That's often not the case. The variety of circumstances profiled in the book shows that there are many benefits of getting in shape - relieving various health problems, having more energy, training to win a contest or get on a team, etc. Of course, losing weight is another benefit in some cases.
