Official Review: Stress Management Techniques by Hiriyappa. B

Stress Management Techniques by Hiriyappa. B has been written to help people who have been affected by damaging stress. The main topic of this book deals with the causes of stress, and offers techniques that can be used to properly manage them.

According to the author, people suffer from stress for several reasons. The main sources of stress are emotional issues, difficulties of family life, and pressures experienced at work. The presence of this negative stress can cause certain medical conditions. The author talks about a number of medical conditions that are caused by detrimental stress and reveals the physical signs of illness may indicate a person is being negatively affected by stress. He also discloses some of the physical stresses that can have a negative influence on a person’s body.

The information in Stress Management shows that many techniques can be used to relieve stress. Readers are made aware of specific stress management techniques used for specific conditions. The author also stresses that it is important to be guided by a doctor or an instructor to benefit from many of the practices mentioned.

I give Stress Management 1 out of 4 stars. Much of the information in the book is repeated and seems unnecessary. It will definitely be difficult for an average reader to understand the medical vocabulary that is used because most of the terms are not well defined. There is no explanation about how to do many of the stress management techniques that do not require an expert’s guidance. In addition, readers are not given information to help them find resources to use in order to find reliable information about many of the techniques that are in the book.

The layout of the book seems to be out of order. Stress management techniques are mentioned before the author reveals all of the major causes of harmful stress. The techniques that have to be performed by a professional, and techniques that can be done without professional’s guidance, are jumbled together. There is no detailed instruction on how to practice many of the stress management methods that can be done without medical or professional supervision.

Current statistics’ and case studies about the use and results of practicing certain stress management techniques are missing from the book. Readers are not given insight into specific outcomes people may have after practicing each method. There are also a few instances where the author cut and pasted information from another source into his text. It is unfortunate that this information is not cited.

Most of the paragraphs in this book are confusing and unclear. Incorrect grammar is used and the writing style is presented in a choppy manner. It is more than likely that readers will be even more frustrated when they realize certain words are missing from some of the sentences.

The best thing about the book is that the author encourages readers to consult a doctor or professional before practicing stress relieving techniques. There is also some good information about the origin of yoga, different categories of Yoga and the benefits a person may receive if he or she decides to practice this stress management method.

Even though readers are made aware of a number of stress management practices, I can not recommend this book. Most of the information in it is difficult to absorb. It definitely needs to be re-written and edited.

I am definitely going to look for this book - I get paralyzed by stress and then I get frustrated because I'm not getting anything accomplished. Thanks for the review!
