The Bite of the Mango (Spoilers)

Post by coffeybooks »

The Bite of the Mango, by Mariatu Kamara is the true story of a young girl of 12 years growing up in Sierra Leone. When rebels invade her small village and other neighboring villages, she is forced to flee and find safety. She is captured by young, boy rebels and threatened to be killed. The leader of their group decides to spare her life, and instead, remove her hands to warn others of their capabilities. After being released, Mariatu finds a hospital and is reunited with some of her relatives. She meets new friends and is soon faced with a sudden occurrence that will change her life. This novel follows a young girl with an inspiring message that is sure to encourage others. I would definitely recommend this book for the 13 and older crowd due to violence and other topics. The Bite of the Mango should be a first on every novelists reading list. :techie-studyingbrown:
