A wise person learns from others. Whenever one is presented with an opportunity or an important choice, it is prudent to listen to words of advice, caution, or encouragement from others who have been in that position or are familiar with the situation. Books like How to Become the Best Network Marketer Possible by Vanisha Alexander-Marshall fall into this category.

Network Marketing, also sometimes called Multi-Level Marketing is a business format made famous by companies such as Avon, Mary Kay, and Tupperware, among others. It is characterized by company sales representatives earning money not only from the products they sell but also from the other marketers they recruit to join the company. Since a sales representative approaching a potential recruit has a vested interest in the latter joining the sales network, it might be easy for the prospective salesperson to feel pressured or overwhelmed when making the decision about whether or not to join. This is where a book like How to Become the Best Network Marketer Possible can be especially welcome.

This book attempts to give the reader an idea of how network marketing works, some tips for success as a network marketer, and a few words of caution concerning potential risks and hazards that sometimes crop up. From some of the remarks, it seemed clear that the author is experienced as a network marketer. She seemed to have particular insight into some situations addressed in the book and was able to clearly and concisely introduce the reader to some of the vital industry jargon. Another important function performed by this book is the clarification between a network marketing company and a pyramid scheme. A pyramid scheme is an illegal scam that inevitably cheats somebody, but a network marketing strategy is a legal business structure that shares some organizational similarities. The author uses a significant portion of the book explaining the difference so the reader will not fall prey to a scam and will be able to improve a network marketing career with the ability to clearly articulate the difference between the two schema to his/her own potential recruits down the road.

I wish the book would have been more extensive. At less than 30 pages in length, there was very little room for explanation, examples, or elaboration. If longer, the author might have dramatically improved the book with anecdotes or a more thorough background on the development of network marketing as a business model, to name just a few possibilities for elaboration. It seemed like the author truly had something important to say, but the brevity of the book stifled the message by cutting it too short.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars because although it has something very valuable to communicate, the book is just too short to fully address its subject. How to Become the Best Network Marketer Possible might be able to turn into a resource for the confused, a refuge for the overwhelmed, or an inspiration for the bored and broke, but first it needs to be extended in order to reach its potential. That, coupled with some editing to fix a few minor mechanical errors, could turn this little bud of a book into a fully formed blossom.
