High Hopes:The Amityville Murders- Sullivan & Aronson

Post by barb429 »

Amityville is perhaps made most famous by the hauntings that supposedly occurred at Oceanside Blvd. Unfortunately, the supposed hauntings have over-shadowed the true terror that happened there. On November 13 1974, Ronnie DeFeo, Jr. murdered his parents and siblings while asleep in their beds. These murders have led to many speculations about what really happened, and then subsequently, a later family claiming to be haunted by the victims.

I have been wanting to read this book for quite some time; however it cannot be found in bookstores. It has been out of print for a long time, so I had to purchase it used. After reading it, I can say that it was definitely worth the wait. This is the story, as told by the prosecutor in the case (Gerard Sullivan). It offers the details to the murder and court case, as no other book has. I really enjoy reading books with heavy emphasis on course cases, and legal speak, so to me this book was very interesting. You get to see what was happening behind the scenes when Ronnie DeFeo, Jr. was prosecuted, as well as some of the common theories. This is a very enjoyable book, especially if you like true crime.

Sounds interesting. I saw a documentary type show awhile back that dealt with the "real" story behind the story of The Amityville Horror (the alleged haunting) and it related alot of the things that occured with the DeFeo family. I may see if I can track down a copy of the book.
