Crowded in the Middle of Nowhere by Dr. Bo Brock

Post by ChrisKauf »

Crowded in the Middle of Nowhere by Dr. Bo Brock is a story about life and animals and interactions between the two. It takes a sometimes humorous look at life as a rural west Texas veterinarian.

Dr. Brock wanted to be a vet since he was 12 years old and the sow he had raised passed away while giving birth. He believed his grandfather could have saved her if he only knew how and now Bo was determined he would learn.
He followed his dream and became a vet “in the middle of nowhere” , Lamesa TX. The book chronicles the daily life of a vet in a remote area. Many house calls are required to remote farms and sometimes clients come from hours away because he is the closest vet who knows how to treat their animals. His practice mainly revolves around horses and other farm animals though her treats all types of pets also. Each story can stand on its own but if you are like me you will want to keep reading the next one.

I found the book to be heartwarming and laugh out loud funny at times; at other times it brought tears to my eyes. Dr. Bo describes the humans and animals so well you can just see the scene unfolding before you and at times almost smell the stench. I liked that he shared the early years of his practice when he was still learning and can laugh at the silly mistakes he made. I really found this to be an endearing book and did not want to put it down; I’d sneak in a few stories anytime I could. I think anyone who loves animals will enjoy reading this book. I give it 4 out of 4 stars.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
