Sweet Tooth by Tim Anderson

Post by bradystefani »

This memoir explores some issues that many books don't. Certainly, for one, growing up gay in an era (1980's) and having no where to turn for acceptance. Also, the issue of child onset diabetics. A very frightening way to grow up. Sweet Tooth won a ton of awards, and the writing was great, funny... My only problem with the book was that I felt Anderson distanced himself from the reader, like he wasnt quite ready to tell his story. What I mean by this is, he describes some pretty lonely and frightening experiences, and presents them with humor. I'd really wanted to understand, to hear first hand, HOW HE FELT. I wanted to experience how confused, alone, worried, sad, frightened he felt both with the diabetic attacks and feeling alone in his sexuality.
But that's just me... Ten Thousand critics cant be wrong, right:)
