I like the message that Blanca wanted to present in her book, believe in yourself. Simple, yet helpful and inspiring. You're right that this book is great for those who help immigrants. Great review.

:no-spoil: The descriptions given in the book are so well articulated they have the ability to create a mental image and to transport the reader back to the time. Also the role of the male and the way he dominates the society has been brought up. The writer has been able to show how society and culture have placed male species as heads, source of protection for the families and Providence. Quite a book, I love it

I like how the author shows the challenges and hardships of immigration across 3 generations. I'm not in the mood for a memoir right now, but it sounds like a nice read. Very relevant today

I'm glad you enjoyed and were inspired by the book. Good to know it was well edited and that the stories were not monotonous. I'm not a fan of memoirs, nor am I too keen on reading about immigration. I'll have to pass. Thank you for the enlightening review!

This novel sounds like a gripping tale of an immigrant who shifted from the Dominican Republic to the USA. The author writes about her experiences as an immigrant in the foreign land for her children and grandchildren. Being well-edited, this book has no grammar mistakes. It fits all age groups of readers.

In this book, I particularly enjoyed the part where Jose lives recklessly for several years and how his life changes after that. Pursuing a Better Tomorrow can be equally insightful to both immigrants as well as non-immigrants.

Thanks for your review! I think that the book's focus on the struggles of immigrants is very relevant in today's political climate. As someone with Cuban roots, I'm curious to read about the section that concerns Jose's life in Cuba. I can't imagine what Carla went through; she must have felt so abandoned when her father sent her to boarding school. It's also interesting that the book spans three generations.

Pursuing A Better Tomorrow pictured out the common embarrassments of immigrants in the foreign land. I salute to the author on how she preserves her maternal lineage story. One thing I like is, it is a good source of family lifestyle in the 1900s unto the present century.

A complete review. I agree with the opinions expressed. Becoming an immigrant is difficult even within the same country, i.e. moving from one region to another, speaking from the perspective of my family, who became immigrants into communism as well, which was terrible. But one must do what one can in order to save oneself and family, from Siberia or worse, in our case.
It is sad that Carla had to join Jehova's witnesses, I cannot find any other comment for what happened to her.
Thank you for the review!

Immigration brings some challenges to the human soul. The search for a better future in a foreign country can develop an internal conflict between the ingrained patriotism and the adaptability of a new culture. The feeling of a stranger can hang hard and constant on your shoulders. I'm glad that the author explores this topic over three generations. This book seems to be helpful not only for the millions of immigrants from all over the world but also for the natives.

Immigration is one of the issues we have in some country in the world today. Some people wants to go to another country rather than staying in their country and make better plans on how to achieve their dreams and attain a brighter future. Is not all country that is save for anyone to live and achieve your dreams they way you want it when you are not citizen of that country
