:techie-studyinggray: Tom shows us that he had to make a change in his life. This last volume was ok, but did not have a lot to before going into the navy, did anything come out of this.congratulations on the BOTD!

This book continues with the many adventures of the author's life. The reader will get a insider's view as to how it was to be a sailor of the Navy in the 1980s. As with any branch of the military, the recruits are exposed to a number of initiations, many of which border on the almost ridiculous.

The author explains many of the tasks that he and the other recruits had to do while out at see before they could be recognized as seasoned sailors. Some of these tasks included pushing eggs along a hard floor with their noses and dressing up as drag queens.

I especially liked the fact that Tom Wick, the author, shared many photographs of his time on the ship. These pictures enabled the reader to truly experience all that went on on the ship.

Wick also explains his experience in Thailand. His descriptions are quite vivid and will be greatly appreciated by anyone who has never been to Thailand.

This seems to be a John Wick week. Such interesting adventures. Thanks for an honest review. I hope the author will pay attention to the editing advice.

From the sample, I agree with the reviewer about the errors and repetitive sections and photos. Some of the Thailand pictures were from Shutterstock.com. Like Volume 2, the details about the locations felt more like a travel guide. I was hoping to see how the detailed descriptions of the exotic places relate to his transformation. I hope the errors highlighted get fixed. I appreciate the honest review.

This is not only a story of sea voyages from one island to another but also fascinating adventures. It is a story of great struggles, resilience, positivism, hope, and triumph. I look forward to reading it. Congrats on the BOTD.

Since I have family members who were in the Navy, I think the photos and descriptions would be interesting to get a glimpse of life on a boat in the naval fleet. I find it amusing that my family members who were in the navy also lack grammatical prowess. This alone doesn't make their stories less interesting, but the repetition you mentioned in the book would be frustrating.

The author definitely has had a full life! But owing to the language and sexual content, I'm going to pass on this book.
1 Cor 15: 19-20, 26 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.
But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead...The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

When Life Doesn't Turn Out the Way We Hoped It Would Volume 3 by Tom Wick is an amazing autobiography that has experiences of reality and problems. This story is creating it's own world part-by-part. I would love to read it, and congratulations on #BOTD.

This third part of the series seems to hold some inspirational lessons the author tried to narrate but in a voluminous form.

I'm not one for memoirs, but I applaud the author for having the courage to share his story in the hopes that it may help others to avoid his mistakes. I can't say I was a fan of the "initiation ceremony" but I'm pretty much firmly against any sort of hazing. I'll be skipping this one, but thanks for the review!

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting continuation to Mr. Wick's memoir. In this volume, Mr. Wick focuses on his time during the Shellback Initiation Ceremony aboard the USS Gridley. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

Enjoying these series. This review shows the author came out triumphantly after passing through hurdles. This he succeeded in achieving through resilience.

It's great to have read the the three books review, and also to see that the author wrote his experiences without any masking, without softening them just for the reader's eyes. Though, the many errors make the reading process a bit slow, I find him brave enough to write them as a way of healing. Great review!
