Thanks for writing a detailed review of the book. Sam's life is similar to most children's life. He received whacks from his dad because if his mischiefs and this also reminds me of my childhood.
Congratulations on being the BOTD!

I find coming-of-age stories to be my favorite type of reading material. I would love to find out why the author goes by Pineapple Sam and what it was like growing up in Hawaii. Guess I'll have to get the book to find out these answers and so much more.

A story of adventures has a charm to it, but this one might just have some extra, being a real-life-based adventure!

I am an ardent reader of memoirs and I am certain that I will enjoy following Sam's adventures. It is true that some find the mundane life boring and I cannot wait to see how this played out in the author's life both before and after his tour.
Thanks for the informative review. :tiphat: :tiphat: :tiphat:

What an adventurous book reflecting Sam's lifestyle and his friends who are of same like-mind. Any decision one makes in life has it's commensurate rewards or consequences. Sam detesting school and studies to choose adventurous lifestyle brought in both fun and chaos. The book though a storyline has lessons to learn from. Thanks

This sounds like an interesting book but I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it. The details about being a soldier in the Vietnam War and all that goes with that is not something for me. Although there is fun and mischief in the book I'm in two minds if I'll read it. I really enjoyed your review. Congrats on BOTD.

**Book Review: "The Life and Adventures of Pineapple Sam" by Pineapple Sam**

"The Life and Adventures of Pineapple Sam" by Pineapple Sam is a compelling memoir that takes readers on a roller-coaster journey through the author’s eventful life. Sam, also known as Ismael to his friends, grows up in Hawaii with a loving mother and a strict father who quits drinking after a religious conversion. Sam and his brother, Hank, frequently find themselves in trouble, leading to numerous punishments from their father. Despite the hardships, Sam's friendships with Randy, Wilson, and Mando bring excitement and dreams of adventure.

The book is rich with thrilling episodes from Sam's life, including a particularly eerie night when he and his friends go spear-fishing in Kauai. They hear a child's cries for help and see a mysterious woman in a white dress, which terrifies them. This mix of real-life adventure and supernatural elements keeps the reader engaged and eager to know more.

One of the most striking parts of the memoir is Sam's time in the U.S. Marine Corps and his harrowing experiences during the Vietnam War. As a tunnel rat, he faces immense danger and the psychological toll of war, including PTSD, is poignantly depicted. The book doesn't shy away from discussing the impact of war on soldiers’ mental health and the lack of adequate support for veterans.

What stands out is Sam’s resilience and humor despite the challenges he faces. His ability to find laughter in tough situations adds a unique charm to the narrative. The book also touches on family relationships and political issues, providing a well-rounded view of Sam's world. The use of Pidgin English adds authenticity, and the included illustrations enhance the storytelling.

Overall, "The Life and Adventures of Pineapple Sam" is an engaging and heartfelt memoir. It offers a vivid look into Sam’s adventurous life and the serious issues faced by many veterans. I rate this book four out of four stars and recommend it to anyone who enjoys memoirs and adventure stories.

"The Life and adventures of Pineapple Sam" by Pineapple Sam is a memoir full of adventure and amusement. From picking up pineapples to becoming a marine, it's all in here. "I’d chosen to work on the north shore of Kauai, where most of the ripening pineapple fields were located." Will surely give it a read. Congrats on BOTD!!
