A Powerful Review

This review effectively captures the emotional impact of *Voiceless*. Theresa highlights the author's raw honesty and courage in sharing such a personal and challenging experience. By emphasizing the harsh treatment Marie endured, the review underscores the importance of the book's message about disability and human empathy.

Theressa's admiration for Marie's resilience and strength is evident throughout, making the book even more compelling. The mention of the whistle as a practical solution to a significant problem is a poignant detail that adds depth to the review. Overall, this is a strong endorsement of the book and its potential to inspire and educate readers.

Marie McCreadie relates to us the story of her life, from her early years in the UK to her new life in Australia and then to the time when she lost her voice. It just happened, unannounced and apparently without explanation. From then on, her life went from sympathy to suspicion, so she just withdrew. Her life was different and complicated since people did not know how to react and interact with a non-speaking person. Finally, many years later she´s able to speak again, the reason she couldn´t and now can is uncommon, a case in a lifetime, but now she doesn´t take her voice for granted, she expresses through it anyway she can, she has many years to recover.

I can't imagine what it would be like to literally lose one's voice and be treated so harshly due to the belief that you're faking it. However, I feel like this story can benefit those who internally lost their voice as well. The author displays strength and courage throughout her journey while still expressing her vulnerability. I love that she found her voice through writing and appreciate that she is able to convey her story with us.

Some books can totally shift your perception for the better and Voiceless by Marie McCreadie is undoubtedly one of those books. It's very difficult to take something that hinders you and change it into something that pushes you forward and that is what this book taught me.

“Adversity introduces a person to themselves.”

Marie's struggle with being unable to speak helped her find inner strength, toughness, and the ability to beat seemingly impossible problems. Her story shows how hard times can lead to finding oneself and growing.
Life is a play where we are the actors and the audience, We laugh and cry, love and hate, create and destroy,
We seek to know ourselves and others, to belong and to be free, We accept what we can and change what we must.

Congratulations on the BOTD. This is a great book that signifies one's potential. The author has shared her tragic story with the readers. I was able to connect with the author only after reading this book. The above review is beautifully written and detailed. I would love to add this nonfiction book to my wishlist.

Definitely not my cup of tea, because not only does it sound a lot like memoirs, which is a genre I extremely dislike, it also is closely connected with medical condition and the suffering it brings. Sorry, but I prefer to skip it.

"Voiceless" by Marie McCreadie is a nonfiction book detailing the author's struggle with losing her voice as a teenager. Despite facing cruel treatment and disbelief from peers and adults, Marie's resilience and honesty shine. Her story of overcoming adversity and societal challenges earns a 5 out of 5 stars. Thank you for a great review.

Thanks for the engaging review. It is so sad that the priests blamed Marie and said it was God punishing her. This is not good at all. Congratulations on being the BOTD!

Interesting how Marie's voice is so audible across the world and that's the power of words. Despite many ill-treatments, the universe always conspires the right people at right time to help achieve great things which is evident from Marie's life story.

Voiceless is not just a story told by a woman; on the contrary, it is a manifesto. It forces us to step back and to pay attention to everything, that is, whether we are in a position of power to change something or not.
