This book is full of kindness, from the author and to yourself. I love the array of short stories the author uses as helpful anecdotes. I also like that upfront there is a description of specific words such as life, love, and joy, and how many times they are mentioned across the book.

The title gives the impression of a comedy. Little did I expect it to take a different perspective.
Island Of Misfit Joys" by Paul E. Kotz sounds like a memo, although not. Paul's story seems to encourage putting one's faith in God and recognizing one's potential. It is a tale of embracing change with the understanding that the change one fears might be the catalyst for a transformative life journey.

Thank you for your concise and informative review of "Island of Misfit Joys" by Paul E. Kotz. From his experiences, the author has derived strategies for coping which readers may find helpful and uplifting. Like most people over 50, Paul Kotz has weathered the storms of divorce and career change. In this flawlessly edited book, he uses his diverse life experiences, and what he has learned from them to guide others experiencing fear and doubt brought on by life's twists and turns. Alexander Victoria's review has helped me reach the conclusion that this book is not for me. However, it does sound like many other readers will find it instructive.

Thanks for the great review. I'm glad you enjoyed the book. I also was pleased to see the humor in it along with his honesty even in his fears and mistakes. That makes nonfiction books much more enjoyable for me. I agree that we all are misfits at times. Sometimes, that feels like the norm in our lives. After sampling the book, I decided to add it to my list of books to read.

Reading this book make felt like I was sitting with Paul and having a conversation with him as walked me through the ins and outs of life. "Island of Misfit Joys" is a great source of encouragement for me and an inspiration to continue pushing. I loved how the author used stories to highlight his thoughts, and the humour bits too were a relief.
