“Swallows Also Fall” by C.R. Armeny offers a compelling tale of historical fiction, blending the personal struggles and political upheavals of Marcelino Massana’s life with the broader context of the Spanish Civil War. Congratulations to the author, #BOTD!

Hi @_Rhea Jacob, I just read your comments on the official review of "Swallows Also Fall" and while I am a history buff, I found the sample a little hard to follow so I will probably not read the entire book. I have so many books to read and not enough time to read them. @Mrlefty0706

"Swallows Also Fall" by CR Armeny vividly captures the struggles during the Spanish Civil War, detailing the harsh impact of the Spanish Flu, the authoritarian rule of Franco, and the resistance of the "Maquis." The book offers a passionate and well-researched historical account. Congrats on BOTD!

Hi @rahul Singh 29, I just read your comments on the official review of "Swallows Also Fall" and while I love history and do not know much about the Spanish Civil War or the Spanish Flu, I found the sample a little confusing, so I agree with your decision. @Mrlefty0706

Hi @anu anand, I just read your comments on the official review of "Swallows Also Fall" and while I appreciate your succinct summary of this book. I love history and I took world history in college 50 years ago, I do not recall anything about the Spanish Civil War, nor do I know if the Spanish Flu spread throughout the world and killed millions like COVID-19. @Mrlefty0706

I only read the free sample but was immediately intrigued by the opening chapters and the early story within the setting of the Spanish Flu. I did not realize it was a biographical novel until I read your review. I am now more curious and determined to read the whole book because I love history and want to know more about the Maquis and their role in the Spanish Civil War.

This sounds interesting and I'm normally someone that enjoys historical fiction, after reading the sample, it's something that I won't enjoy. Thanks for a great review. Congrats on BOTD.

The characters in Swallows Also Fall are not simply heroes or villains. They are complex individuals grappling with difficult choices in a dire situation. This complexity adds depth and realism to the story.

"Swallows Also Fall" by CR Armeny is a captivating historical novel that sheds light on the life of Marcelino Massana, a lesser-known figure from the time of the Spanish Civil War. The book opens with a compelling narrative of Marcelino's early life, marked by tragedy and hardship. During the Spanish Flu, Marceli is brought to Rosana's family by his father and aunt. Following the death of his parents, Marceli is forced into a church environment by his uncle, shaping his views and fate in profound ways.

As the story unfolds, Marceli's interactions with oppressive institutions such as the church, landowners, and the wealthy lead him to form a group of "Maquis" who resist Franco's authoritarian regime. This aspect of Marceli's life, filled with rebellion and resistance, is both gripping and enlightening.

One of the book's most intriguing elements is the revelation of its historical grounding in the final section, where the author explains their motivation for writing the book. Despite being painted as a terrorist by government propaganda, the real Marceli is brought to life through personal anecdotes and limited writings, filling a significant gap in the historical record.

The author's connection to Marceli's foster family adds a layer of passion and authenticity to the narrative. Despite the challenges of limited source material, CR Armeny has crafted a detailed and engaging account of Marceli's life and legacy.

However, the book does have its complexities. The narrative shifts perspectives without clear indicators, sometimes leaving the reader momentarily confused. Additionally, the introduction's placement later in the story and subsequent timeline shifts can be disorienting. Despite these minor issues, the story's coherence and impact are preserved, making it a compelling read.

Overall, "Swallows Also Fall" is a highly recommended book for those interested in historical wars and the Spanish Civil War. The author's dedication to uncovering Marceli's story and the rich historical context make this book a valuable and enlightening read!

I didn't understand the gist of the book, or review. What is it historical facts or someone's life story. Though mentioning of Critical points seems the highlight.

This sounds like a fascinating exploration of Marceli Massana's life and his role during the Spanish Civil War! 📚 It's incredible how the author, CR Armeny, pieced together Marceli's story despite the limited information available. It's understandable that mixing up perspectives could be a bit confusing, but it seems like you managed to piece it all together in the end. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on "Swallows Also Fall"! It's definitely going on my reading list.
