I see where you're coming from! The comparison might not resonate with everyone, depending on how one interprets the metaphor. I think the author's intent was to highlight qualities like loyalty and perseverance rather than diminish human free will.
Don't you believe there.are much more noble examples of those qualities than animal lead by carrot?

I get what you're saying, and I appreciate your perspective! There are certainly many noble examples of loyalty and perserverance beyond animals following incentives. I think the author's choice of donkeys as a metaphor was likely inspired by their role in biblical narratives rather than as a general statement about devotion. That said, metaphors work differently for different people, and if this one doesn't resonate, I totally understand!
