Teenagers are in my opinion the most vulnerable because they do not have the experience of an adult to cope with things when they encounter a difficult situation and are too shy or afraid to come up to an adult and ask for help. So I believe this book is very handy in this case as it proves that there is a way out in any situation and besides the book provides them with some practical advice on how to avoid and protect yourself from unwanted thoughts and the desire to end your life. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

Stepping Up-By Donalyn Powell
Review - By John Makathimo

Stepping Up by Donalyn Powell is a truly insightful novel about the problems besetting youth in modern day societies. Her faith in God opens her spiritual eye to "the unspoken" the problems that our fragmented societies have thrown at them and the cause of mental sickness manifesting itself in suicide.
These suicidal tendencies are ignored by families and society in general until it is too late when help is readily at hand for those who trust that God is able to help them persevere and transform them to be overcomers.

The book is a challenge to the Christian Church to wake up to the realities of the youth in their midst and the need to lead them on a life that recognizes God's plan of a future with hope for their lives.

This sounds like a great book full of some incredible advice for those who are struggling. It’s only too bad this book wasn’t around when some of my friends needed it all those years ago.

From the review, I would not read the story now because of the strong suicidal emotions the themes convey. I have so many psychological problems in my life to tackle before grabbing this book. This story would be very educative and inspiring to adolescents as they grow and encounter stronger tests in their transition.

Even through I usually like read non fiction books, suicide is such a heavy topic that I am not sure I will be able to brave it.

i would love to have this book earlier when i felt the most vulnerable but now will do as well as i knew a lot of people who may need it. being a teacher, i'm used to people approaching me for advice when they're going through hardships. i trust that today's botd is worth sharing with them. good job on the review.

Finely a rating befitting the errors found in the text. However the rate of suicide is very high among tweens making this a good book for them. So the comment about it not being fitting for that age is misguided. Also all the quotes from within the text feels like a review bulker instead of an actual point.

Feeling upset sometimes may be unavoidable, but acting distressed is always optional.

The topic of this book is relevant as news of suicide cover media platforms so often nowadays. I hope this book finds it way to the hearts and minds of troubled people and just think to hold on and pray.

Stepping Up consists of letters to and from Powell(the author), relevant poems by the author; short stories about people who have attempted or considered taking their own lives or endured the loss of a loved one to suicide. A moving read that draws attention to the serious issue that is suicide.

Although I most likely would not read this book myself I do commend the author for writing it and providing some solace to those dealing with suicidal thoughts and the loved ones of suicide victims.

Suicide is such a confronting and emotional subject, and the author has approached it in a very sensitive and compassionate way. Understanding the motivation and coming to terms with the aftermath is so important for those left behind and I’m sure many will take great comfort from this book.

Thank you for your thoughtful review concerning this book. Due to the subject matter, I don't think that this book will be a good fit for me. I don't read a lot of non-fiction and when I do I tend to steer clear of certain subjects and suicide is one of them. I'm sure that the author has an intended audience for this book, but I honestly hope that those who are easily swayed emotionally are not one of them.
