If only I had grown up during such times! I'm always beyond joyous whenever someone says they had a happy childhood, as that would be my most heartfelt wish for every child. It would be so interesting to learn of the differences between the '40s and today, as the author sees them. I'm sure she was a wonderful teacher and I'm glad she shared her life with us. What a lovely review, Mercy Bolo.

I read the sample & it was enjoyable. Nice & easy to read with simple language. I especially liked the photos as well. It's nice to see the people you're reading about. Would love to read it through if given the chance.

I am impressed with the authors memory of her early age back then.i find the simplicity of this book so interesting and I love the way the author talked about the simplicity of life back then.pleas I think the older generation should teach the younger ones how to value themselves.i love the online book club review and I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

I still remember visiting my grandmother and she went out into the backyard and killed a chicken for dinner. Having never seen it before, young me was rather devastated. This sounds like an interesting and short read about how life has changed within the author's lifetime. Thank you for a lovely review :)

I am sure that the author would have seen and experienced so many changes during her life. It sounds like she grew up in a loving and strong family with her grandparents' influences and then herself, experienced a traumatic, but necessary divorce. She was then able to survive, as well as thrive, as she brought up her children on her own.

This story could enligthen me about the life condition in the old days that I could not never imagined of, at that time, people live a simple but satisfying lifelihood. They live so carefree as they can get food easily from their backyard, not worry about not enough money to buy them. Kids are free to explore their world, not like nowadays where kids are busy with their gadget. Family ties are kind of close, grandparents are happy to live wiht their grandkids and so on.

Hopefully I can read the rest of the book.

I felt quickly drawn into the story, but then I like good suspenseful stories, non-fiction or fiction. Good job by the reviewer.

Took me back to the time in my childhood days where my Grandmother actually wrung chickens necks and boiled the chicken...my my how graphic. I felt as though I was standing in my Grandmothers blue house on 39th Ave in Gary, Indiana. An easy read for sure.

Describing her childhood and simpler times does sound appealing. I would love a time where tablets and cell phones didn't exist, lol. Family values are so important. I'm glad the author agrees and explores this, along with life lessons, in her memoir. Glad that the high ratings held true while you read and that this was well-edited. Memoirs, even quick ones, aren't for me, but glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing!

It will be great if everyone recaptures the events and values of the olden days.

I often think about how things were when I was a kid and compare them to today. There are a ton of differences and I’m not as old as I feel, so I know that the changes from the author’s childhood to now are mind-blowing. No cell phones or GPS. How would we survive? Wonderful review.

Thanks for the review. The few childhood memories of the writer's good old golden days brought smile to my face and had me nostalgic. I do agree our kids these days are missing out on those innocent and creative fun, they are more into gadgets and have no use what to do without one.

Dibs and Dabs of my life seems to be a very inspirational and helpful book especially to single parents. This true story by Gertrude seems to be one that will keep you interested throughout the entire book
