This volume two sounds like a great read, just like the first volume. I like it that the author infuses humor, along with description of places. I'll definitely read this one. Congrats on the BOTD!

A travel guide! I wonder if that takes focus away from the seriousness of what seems to be a traumatic life. Also, that level of detail is probably why the story is voluminous.

You did a remarkable job on this review. I found the first book very interesting and i’m sure this one will be equally as good. Thank you for your views on his work and showing us the story.
I may have to read this soon.

I haven't read the first book. I would love to read the first before reading this one. Nonetheless, I think Tom's story is a sad one.

In his second book, When Life Doesn't Turn Out The Way We Hoped It Would? Volume 2, Tom Wick details his life experiences serving in the United States Navy working as a "Hull Maintenance Technician Fireman" (HMTF). We get a detailed look into what his life was like, as he traveled to different places around the world on missions on the USS Gridley (CG-21), one of the ships of the United States Navy named after Captain Charles Gridley. We also get to see how Tom Wick deals with the abuse he suffered in the previous book, which involved rape and getting beat up.

I really enjoyed following this part of Tom Wick's life. There was quite a lot to learn from his story, from what it entailed to work on a ship and the negative effects of abuse to winemaking. Readers will notice the author's use of pot and alcohol as ways to escape. His distrust of everyone around him due to his post-traumatic stress disorder, especially aboard the ship, meant that he couldn't get along with most people and was usually afraid and emotional. Fortunately, Tom Wick had a great way of including humor to lighten the mood in any situation, so it was easy to read through a lot of sad parts and areas where he went into detail about the functions of different departments on a U.S. Navy ship, which could be boring for some readers.

I enjoyed the chronological history of Captain Charles Gridley and great background for Tom Wick's life aboard a ship named after Captain Gridley. I learned a lot from the details about Navy ships and the roles of sailors on these ships. Great official review.

The character of Tom Wick was very well developed. Sounds like a character-based novel. Good job.

Tom Wick lived a hard life. Broken people have difficulties trusting others. I hope that there was restoration. Thanks for this review.

A memoir that tells the story of Tom. In volume one of this book, he explored the physical and sexual abuse he experienced. Now, Tom delved into detail about his experience in the navy. Great! Congratulations on the book of the day.

The book would hopefully help people with PTSD and a history of enduring abuse in battling through their pain and finding recovery. Thank you for the review and congratulations to the author on today's BOTD!

It's almost like a familiar experience for those who served in US Navy to experience such traumatic complications. This will definitely be an enjoyable read.

I haven't read the first installment yet, and the profusion of disturbing topics including PTSD and substance abuse makes me hesitant to attempt. Thanks for the candid review, though!

Wow, I was not really expecting a second book. I mean, i thought this is still the first book. I just hope the author used a different cover. Anyway, I'm glad there is a continuation of his book. It's really interesting to read an autobiography. I get to understand people and different aspects of life a whole lot better. Thanks for this.

I appreciate you mentioning that you don't agree with all of the life choices of the author, but that's what an honest memoir brings - also the questionable actions, and hopefully a tad of understanding from the readers as to why people make certain choices. I think I'd like the descriptive picture of all the places the author could travel!
