Seemingly this is an interesting and a truly inspiring book. Though I pass on this one due to my personal preferences, I congratulate it on being BOTD

Wow!. Firstly I want to appreciate the reviewer for a work well done. Your review was very concise and accommodating. Going through the review alone I already felt I was reading the main book. I don't normally fancy autobiographies but this particular one is an exception, it just won my heart over. I love the themes of this great book. I love the authors courage in sharing her life stories including her challenges and how she overcame them. This is indeed a great read for every woman out there who really wants to get motivated again.
I love this book and I'm surely getting one for myself.

I can only applaud this woman for all the things that she went through and overcame in the end. This is a book that thoroughly details her life and the things that she faced during a trying time of transition for so many. I'm sure that many will find this book fascinating but I'm not an avid reader of non-fiction so I will be passing on reading this book.

I'm pressed with the consensus of this book, not just from the reviewer, but also from the wonderful comments everyone has left here! This sounds like a great book for anyone who is starting out from a small or difficult beginning. I can already see that it will be a story that offers encouragement. Thanks for the great review!

Atrocious is what I call it when you have to deal with people that can't think humanely. It is horrible to have prejudice in this world it makes you think people are ignorant. It is so heartwarming and a story of true victory when someone can overcome these obstacles and needs to be shared with the world so thank you both to the author and to you for your wonderful review. I wish people in this world would stop and think sometimes not only of themselves and what they want but how they can help end these kind of things once and for all.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 :angelic-grayflying:

It's always great to hear how people overcame certain obstacles in life and became a successful person. Being an African-American girl growing up in the 50s and 60s must have been challenging, but I'm glad Janice had strong parents while growing up. It's sad to hear the sadness and cruelty she endured that was included in her book, but it's nice that the author felt comfortable enough to share something so personal. I had no idea that people's skin shades were "ranked" different in society. It's great to hear the author made you feel a sense of accomplish due to her successes as she searched for the American Dream. It's also good to hear this was edited well. I think the 30-page treaty would be too much for me to read, but it's good to know that this didn't affect your enjoyment of this informative book. Thank you for sharing!

Great review! I am new to reading autobiographies and the eyewitness accounts to these horrible events are devastating. I cannot imagine the pain and emotional toll she had on her growing up. It sounds like this one will bring a tear to my eye, but I will probably read it anyway!

It is good to know that the book was professionally edited and that there was only one grammatical error in the entire book. I am glad that you liked reading the book overall. Congrats to the author on the 4/4 rating.

An african-amerian woman suffering not only from racism but also from abuse makes her success story very impressive. Sounds like an emotional read.

It is heartrenching to read about the cruelty and fear which so many experienced in the name of race, and equally disturbing that this situation continues to exist today. The author must be commended for her inspiring journey of survival and success. Many thanks for your thoughtful review.

Racial discrimination and bullying are sensitive and painful topics in a novel and when victims rise and succeed amidst hurt and pain is wonderful and a balm to the heart. Congrats!

This autobiography of Janice Ellis sounds like a true success story of one pursuing the American dream in spite of all the difficulties she faced. I find it amazing that Ellis knew she wanted to grow up and become a news commentator from listening to a CBS radio commentator as a child.

This sounds like a book worth reading. I do want to mention that I'm from Alabama and not all white families treated people of color negatively in the past. It's extremely rare in the rural South now for racism to exist in any form. The author's experience of the past isn't the South currently.
