Thank you for the concise and complete review on this book. After sampling the book, I am interested in finding out more about Victoria's life and how her Christian faith will sustain her through the many trials and persecution.

I'm an Indian, and the things you mentioned about sitting on the floor while eating and arranged marriages are common here, so I can relate to it. I like it when authors do not try to sugarcoat things and tell it like it is, which lends authenticity to the story. I admire Victoria's strength for sticking to her beliefs, but I'm not sure if I'll be reading the book, as books with religious themes are not my cup of tea. Thank you for the wonderful review!

It seems like a great motivational story for Christians. I will rather skip it though. Thanks for a great review.

Religion is such a divisive issue in our society. It is interesting to read the author's story especially because of the discrimination he faced after converting to Christianity from Islam. Thanks for the enjoyable review.

The most fascinating things about this book were the descriptions of Pakistani culture. The author vividly describes different aspects of life there during that era. I was surprised to learn that families in Pakistan normally dined while sitting on the floor. Some of the things they ate included chapatti cooked on a tava and biryani, a type of rice dish. Words from other languages were incorporated into the characters’ conversations. The word ‘paleed’ means ‘despicable, impure, and unclean’, and this was the word that Victoria was most often referred to by her Muslim peers.

I enjoy learning about different cultures, and I find the details you mention fascinating. However, I would love to know if the author dives deep into the downsides of this culture. For example, the problem you mention about rape culture. If we don't analyze the sociocultural motives of why people think this way, I just get the impression of a culture portrayed as "the bad guys". The story and the characters, especially Victoria, seem compelling.
Thank you for your in-depth and sensitive review.

I like books that are based on real-life people. The storyline sounds interesting. I don't know much about Pakistani culture so I want to read this book. Great job with the review.

I haven't read a tale like this before. Really well discussed about the Pakistani culture and tradition. I would like to learn more about Victoria and her struggles as she grows up. Thankyou for the wonderful review.

:techie-studyinggray: :wink2: I want to come in from, ''the push to the limits on Victoria'' 'Finding no solutions to her problems led her to harm others. She went through a very dark period, and I found it hard to like her when she became a bully herself.' I want to believe there are still similar challenges many are facing with their religion due to opposing believes. my advice is for all religion to embrace peace and shine the light of the creator, instead of fighting, harming or bullying over it own believes or indoctrination. :ugeek2: :shock2: :?

Religious intolerance is a global phenomenon just like racism. May we all have the heart to tolerate one another across religious, ethnic, and political divides. Thank you for an amazing review and congratulations to the author on being the book of the day.

I sympathize with this character named Victoria. Growing up in such a situation must have been very difficult. I don't think there should be any discrimination based on our religious beliefs. I mean it's not that there is any one religion that can say with absolute conviction that it is the only one that is right. Anyway I am glad that this author chose to talk about this sensitive issue. Thank you for your good review.

This story sounds interesting. Being that it is a true story makes it relatable to other persons who converted from Muslim to Christianity and the similar or even worse persecutions they had to face for that. More light was shed on some Pakistani culture to. Kudos to the Author.

This looks like an incredible book. It kind of reminds me of 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' by Khaled Hosseini. I'm very happy that this book is available for free today. Hope to read this soon.

The Despicable Missionary is a story of a Christian girl standing on her faith despite the backlash from those around her. Despite the influence of Islam on the culture in Pakistan she stood her ground and still showed love to those around her. Congrats on being BOTD. I look forward to reading the novel.

Wow, just reading your review is heartbreaking. I’m uncertain if I want to read the book to have more knowledge about what did, and still is, happening in Pakistan, or not because my heart might not be able to bear it.
