Having insights into someone else life's journey makes biographies great books to read. This is a great review

The author had a tough time surviving the racial prejudice. I was surprised that it would take a troop to escort the black kid to school to avoid lynching. That's very sad.

Quite an interesting review, what stands out for me is the racism element that the author tries to suggest the best ways to curb it from extending to future generations is by, every parent taking the initiative to lecture their children against colour discrimination..a very informative statement..

What I enjoy about good biographies is that the author is giving you some part of their life. I enjoy reading biographies, and this interests me since its thematic appreciation of racism is evident. Nice review.

This is an interesting intelligent non-fiction memoir highlighting the 1960s, Claremont, friends, growth, and love for playing music, especially the clarinet. the book is temporarily discounted on Amazon Kindle and has a well-written OnlineBookClub review. Congrats on the BOTD.

Racial discrimination was not excluded as the author revealed how a black student had to be protected by troops to attend school and avoid being lynched. It was apt that the author highlighted racism in his narration, considering the story's timeline. The segregation at the time was not just social but also economical. Many black people could not afford to live in particular places, like in Claremont, where James's family lived; even if they could afford it, no landlord would rent out to them because it would not look good for business.
That's disgusting. And, unfortunately, still true. Not the part about the troops, but about real estate. Real estate agents still, in this day and age, use tricks and legal loopholes to keep certain areas "white" and raise the value of properties. That's sickening and absurd.
Other than that, this seems like an interesting way to visit a different time, and I like the fact that there's some humor in it.
Thanks!

I am a little burnt out on memoirs right now. However, this book sounds like it would be a good choice for those who enjoy memoirs! James was lucky to grow up with a mother who did not discriminate against color. Racism on all sides needs to be snuffed out. God made us all in His image which makes us all equal!
I am going to pass on this one, but thanks for the great review!

This biography seems entertaining considering that the author writes candidly and about things that may be too embarrassing to share. It also includes the issue of racial discrimination. Sounds interesting.

A historical autobiography is a great way to learn about how historical events/time periods were experienced through someone who was actually there and puts us readers in their shoes. This sounds like an interesting and captivating read!

It’s amazing how the author exhibited true Christianity by not partaking in segregation of others. A lot of people forget to treat their neighbors as they would treat themselves.
