This is a wonderful story. I'm truly touched after reading the review. As someone who has moved from one home to the other over similar reasons as the Ortiz family, I'd definitely identify with either one of them. I'd love to find out how they navigated their journey and their experiences.

In life, there are many hard choices to make and this book does an admirable job at depicting this relatable theme. After moving to the US, the Ortiz family were struck with misfortune that let to the separation of the five siblings into foster homes. I'm curious to know if Mary was successful in uniting her family once again. Congrats on the BOTD!

I liked that the author sketched the protagonist's character over his mother. Moreover, the theme of foster parents and how they treat their foster children has always been an exciting topic for me to read.

One thing about true-life stories especially those about overcoming adversity is that they become one's unofficial manuals for life. From your description, I believe Maria's journey and indeed that of her family is jam-packed with lessons about a challenging life. I have just started reading it and I cannot wait to get deeper into the story.

Thanks for your review. So this is not the author's memoir but a book that recounts the stories of his mother.

It is so beautiful that the author decided to tell his mother's story. I wonder if his mother is still alive and if she contributed to the story.

Can't imagine how life was like in the 90s but I'm hopeful that the author will enable me to create Mental images of the same. Thanks for the review.

From the story in this book, I can see that not all quest for greener pastures abroad turn out good.Ortiz family taught moving to America will bring the good life they are looking for but it didn't. I recommend this book to those looking for for greener pastures.

I'm sure Gregory anticipated great things for his family as they moved to the US. He could have never known what tragedy would occur and how his children would end up in different foster homes. This book sounds like an interesting read.

Healing is a process and so is forgiveness. The first step may be accepting an apology but that acceptance of a delivered apology will not at firsthand just erase everything I agree with you on this.
