This sounds like an interesting read. I love music and concerts. And I totally agree that the experiences can be crazy. I'm curious to know the author's version of it. The humor and adventure will keep the readers engaged throughout. A great book.

Even though I haven't read the book, this review grabbed my attention. I have a strong appreciation for stories that intertwine music with personal experiences. The notion of someone seeing the Counting Crows 92 times is fascinating—in the best possible way! It sounds like a book that goes beyond mere concerts and explores real-life scenarios and adventures.

Thanks for pointing out that the book is arranged by bands, not by date... that's helpful to know before starting. It’s also interesting that the author shares both concert stories and personal life moments, like teaching. I’ll keep the photo quality and punctuation issues in mind, but overall, it sounds like a fun read for any music lover.

Definitely not my cup of tea, because while I love music a great deal, I do not make an idol for myself. It is completely foreign to me and I simply am unable to understand the person dropping his life to follow on so many trips. I prefer professional records with a comfy chair and will have to skip the book. Congrats anyway!

Just a Fan by John R. Lyman really opened my eyes, especially as someone who isn’t very familiar with the music world. The way he shares his experiences made me see how powerful and personal music can be, even if you're not a musician yourself. I also agree with your point about the pictures — while they added a personal touch to the book, the quality made it hard to understand their full meaning or how they connected to the stories. I often found myself pausing just to try to figure out what the photos were showing and why they were important.

I personally wasn’t bothered by the author’s use of commas, but I understand that writing style can affect readers differently. What stood out most to me was his journey. It’s inspiring to see how, despite being a teacher with a regular job, he managed to attend hundreds of concerts, travel, and meet so many musicians. That kind of dedication and passion really shows how much music shaped his life. It also helped me realize how much there is to discover in music culture, even for those of us who aren’t part of that scene.

Overall, I think it’s a unique and heartfelt memoir that shows how powerful being “just a fan” can really be.

Thank you for sharing your insightful review. Seeing your favorite band in a live concert is one thing. But the author has attended over 900 shows, and it's still counting. What an insane addiction! I'm also curious how he could afford that as a teacher, though. But I'm not sure if I want to read this book because of the negative aspect you mention.

'Official Review: Just a Fan' by John R. Lyman has an interesting introduction. Author Lyman's career as a concertgoer began at the age of 14 and is still happening 45 years later. The adventures he experienced before, after, and during the shows are told in an honest and humorous style that everyone can enjoy. The author led an interesting life and met some extraordinary people. It was great to learn that the review is informative and enriching!

I wonder how the author became such an avid concertgoer, and I also wonder how he could afford going to so many concerts with a teacher's salary. However, I'm not sure how much I would enjoy this book if it deals a lot with drugs and alcohol — I don't find it offensive, but I don't like to read too much about it. I think I'll sample it to see how humorous it is before deciding to read all of it. Thanks for the review.

Personally, not a fan of concerts, but it is intriguing that he has been able to travel the world and attend 900 concerts and counting. All on a teacher's salary? Maybe this book has financial wisdom within the pages. Great read for music fans.

"Just a Fan" by John R. Lyman is more than a memoir—it's a backstage pass to 900+ concerts, wild road trips, and the raw highs of a lifelong rock fan. Honest, hilarious & heartfelt, it's a music lover's dream, told band-by-band. Congratulations on being BOTD!
