I always do wonder why some leaders opt for dictatorship, it's really the worst way to rule any country and the citizens are the only ones who pay. I'm intrigued in reading how dictatorship in Paraguay came to an end. Great review

Your review highlights the emotional and historical depth of the book. Although I haven’t read it yet, your compelling summary of the atrocities and political complexities under Stroessner emphasizes its disturbing yet essential nature.

Congrats on BOTD!
The book "Stroessner & the Reign of Terror" goes into great detail about the most prolonged totalitarianism in South America and is quite frightening. With unadulterated moral force, the tale reveals the cruel rule of Stroessner of Paraguay, from brutality and fraud to global issues.

Thanks for this honest review. It sounds like a painful but important story that shines a light on the human rights abuses so many lived through in Paraguay. Definitely seems like a powerful read for those interested in history and justice.

One can find a glimpse of the situation under the reign of a dictator by reading the book "STROESSNER & the Reign of Terror" by Kim Ekemar. The story is about the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner in Paraguay.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

Alfredo Stroessner’s dictatorship is vividly portrayed in Stroessner & the Reign of Terror. You can feel the intensity when the book describes the corruption, torture and politicking. South American history is not something I read often, so the book is also unique. Great job getting BotD!

I am finding real-life historical books a lot more enjoyable as I get older. I consider them a great way to learn about human behavior and its evolution or lack of over the years.

Alfredo Stroessner and his rule of terror in Paraguay is not a story I am familiar with. I'm glad the author did the story the justice it deserves despite the gory details of abuse and dehumanization Alfredo Stroessner subjected his people to.

The book sounds interesting, as it reveals the truth about the longest dictatorship in South American history and the atrocities committed during that time. However, non-fiction isn't really my cup of tea, and 300 pages feels a bit too long. Still, I would have appreciated a shorter, abridged version of the book. Congratulations on becoming BOTD!

Good review! I don't understand dictators or people in power who would want to torture pregnant women and children. It serves no purpose, especially for the children. They did nothing wrong and don't deserve to be tortured and then slaughtered. I will pass on this book, even though it is a historical novel.

The book seems like a great historical novel that discusses the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner in Paraguay. From the review, I can tell that the author's writing style and the addition of wittiness do make this book appealing.

Thanks for this detailed review. It's clear the book gives a powerful and disturbing look into Stroessner’s dictatorship. The part about how torture and fear were used to keep power really stood out. I agree that the way the author shows the emotional and physical pain makes the story hit harder. It’s good to know the writing style makes such a heavy topic easier to follow, even if the timeline could’ve been more organized. The missing pages are also something to fix. Overall, it sounds like a tough but important read for anyone interested in real history and human rights.
