Not everyone understands the feeling of moving to a new home outside where you know people, and experiencing new, foreign stuff. Readers who are into the life in England and Jamaica would like it.

What period of your life have you had your best life in? When did you last enjoy living? When did you last escape this concrete jungle? Congratulations on the BOTD, and best wishes for future projects.

Take a look at how losing her father in Jamaica might have sent Monica down different paths in her life, the women's relationship with religion, and her identity. Then trace her sense of belonging as the book progresses from excitement at the prospect of an exotic adventure to a more subtle understanding of what home means in Jamaica and how this might shape later life.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting autobiographical account of the author's experience in Jamaica as a young English girl from 1948–1954. It might be worth a second look. Well done.

Non fiction, autobiographical books are not my cup of tea but the review is well written and the book seems interesting providing the knowledge and lots of interesting facts along with the pictures about the country’s food, culture, history, and people. See what trace of this dialect had prompted her vocabulary to acquire or lack in grammar and accent, if any, and whether that trait remains among her writing style today. Monica captures the exchanges between upper class British expats, white middle class Jamaicans and the poor, when there is a lack of cultural understanding or friction.

I really enjoyed reading your review! It sounds like Monica Carly did a fantastic job of immersing readers in both the culture and experience of Jamaica through the eyes of a young girl. I love books that offer a fresh perspective on different places and cultures. The descriptions of the food, history, and environment must have really brought Jamaica to life! Definitely sounds like a captivating read.

Jamaica is a fellow African country here and apart from its popular reggae, it is surprising that I don't know much about my brother-country.
I am sure looking forward to this promising read. Congrats on BOTD.
