This is an insightful book that explores cultural disintegration, focusing mainly on South Africa, and looks at how colonialism, politics, migration, development, globalization, religion, and sport contribute to it. Congrats on BOTD!

Hi @Leonie Vermaak, I just read your comments on the official review of "Isazisi: The Book" and I totally agree with you. Having been to South Africa and seeing what was happening at that time and knowing that an election was recently held I agree with you withholding your comments until you have had an opportunity to read the book. I assume you are aware of the white supremacist movement in the U.S. and supported by our former president, it is only going to lead to bloodshed if the violence and hateful rhetoric is not stopped. South Africa is a beautiful country, and I would love to see the race issues resolved, I thought the worst of the race issues in the U.S. ended in the 1960s but I was wrong, and it may be worse now than in the 1960s. @mrlefty0706

This book sounds interesting and the writing sounds passionate. I believe it is a book that South Africa needs to ensure that the right national values and character are instilled in young minds. Kudos to the author for going through the pains of documenting all this.

I hardly know anything about South African, if this book will help me know some things about their culture then I'm up for reading it. Big kudos to the author for winning BOTD with this book.

**Book Review: "Isazisi: The Book" by Bongani Yona**

"Isazisi: The Book" by Bongani Yona offers a compelling and insightful exploration of the cultural erosion in South Africa. Based on the Isazisi feature film script, the book highlights the heartbreaking loss of cultural identity that the nation has been experiencing. While the Apartheid era was undeniably brutal, Yona argues that the ongoing decline of indigenous people's conditions is equally, if not more, insidious because it often goes unnoticed.

Yona delves into critical issues such as land ownership, migration, politics, and globalization, illustrating how these forces have reshaped South African culture. He provides a striking example of how African athletes are enticed to become naturalized citizens of other countries, only to be discarded and sent back with their original passports if they fail to perform. This stark reality underscores the commodification of individuals and the profound cultural impact it has.

The book is rich with discussions on the various factors influencing cultural change and emphasizes the urgent need to recognize and counteract this cultural drift. Yona's subtitle, "Lose Your Culture, Lose Your Honour," is particularly poignant, reflecting the grave consequences of cultural disintegration. Through numerous examples, Yona shows how traditions, languages, and customs of South Africa's indigenous people are slowly being eroded.

One of the book's strengths is Yona's candid and informed perspective on the ongoing colonial influences and their lasting impacts. His honest critique provides readers with a deeper understanding of the cultural challenges facing South Africa today.

Initially, the repetitive nature of the book's message seemed like a drawback. However, this repetition underscores the author's deep distress and passion for the subject, making the urgency of his message clear.

In conclusion, "Isazisi: The Book" is a must-read for anyone interested in cultural preservation and the effects of globalization. I highly recommend it to South Africans, policymakers, and anyone concerned with cultural heritage. I gladly rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
