This looks like a fascinating read. Books about people that overcome diversity and truly live their life to the fullest. I definitely would enjoy reading this!

i enjoyed the review , it offers a window to peep into the history of Janice as well as other women and black people who were living in the 90's.Its painful that as humans we are capable of so much hate and that we can be so cruel just because we do not share the same colour.Nonetheless i feel this is a great motivational book for all woman as the author managed to rise against the injustices, illtreatment and disadvantages that where working against her!

This is the autobiography of Janice Ellis, a black girl who went from a farm in Mississippi to be a successful businesswoman and newspaper reporter. She overcame racism and sexism to earn her college degrees and make a name for herself. Congratulations to the author for being chosen as BOTD. Thanks to the reviewer. It was interesting to hear your views on the disgraceful treatment of blacks in the United States.

I would like to read this book to understand the racial biases during the time the author grew in. Important lessons can be learned from such a study. Thanks for the review.

The trials and tribulations of black women during that time period can definitely be a shock to the system today, but remembering what they faced then can make it more clear what challenges they still face today. This definitely sounds like a worthwhile read for many.

As a black woman in America, I found Ellis riveting. Her experiences hit home for me and I am so grateful that she was able to write this. I would recommend this book to anyone who wanted an honest perspective from a commonly marginalized subsection of our country.

This sounds like a very interesting book of coming of age in a racial time period and very historically accurate to the time period. Might check it out.

It is truly heartbreaking to read about the treatment of black people, especially a little girl. Not only did Janice have to battle the injustices she faced because of her race, she also suffered abuse from more than one of her lovers. Her perseverance is so inspiring. Thanks for the review!

Wow, delving off into a 30 page rabbit hole does sound like an odd decision when taking into account the big picture of the overall story. I’d expect meaningful quotes sprinkled throughout the story more and then the citing of works where such quotes originated. Of course, as an autobiography the author probably felt it was characterization that introduced her passions to the point of being unapologetically herself.

This sounds bpth brilliant and educational but I'm going to have to pass. After seven years of being embedded in this type od discussion and still being unable to escape it on social media, I need a break. However, I will say that this is important work the author is doing by talking about this.

Thanks for the review! Autobiographies are some of my favorites to read so I might have to read this one next. Your review also captures the clear hardships the author went through in a concise and interesting way. It's a great synopsis and I can't wait to read it.

This is a must read for me! Her story is so similar to stories I have heard from my grandmother, mother, aunts and some I have experienced myself. Cannot wait to read the entire book.

Though autobiographies are not my kind of books but this one seems different and moreover it is based on the struggles of a woman. I will definitely read this.
