Suicide is such a painful topic. It's very cool to see you are brave enough to address it in a healing and supportive manner (when many others have run away from merely hearing that WORD "suicide.") When my best friend spoke of past feelings of suicide I admitted to her that I didn't know what to say. "It makes me angry to hear you have thought about killing my very best friend! I'm not sure if I should hug you or slug you. I mean, are you my friend or the MURDERER of my best friend?"

Thing about life is? Situations are always changing. In the dead-of-winter, it may feel so very cold and blistery-white that it's hard to imagine things will ever get warm again. Will the butterflies ever return? Yet the leaves will come back and the daylight hours will grow longer ... if we all can just keep on keeping-on for just a little while longer. Everything changes ... providing we don't die and prevent good things from happening.

Suicide is an especially relevant topic in today’s atmosphere of bullying. Our youngsters need to know that there are alternatives to taking your own life. It is amazing that the author answers every letter and adds relevant poems in the book. God’s love is extolled as a way to learn your self-worth. Thanks for the honest review.

That was really emotional, it left me sad and really not inclined to read it at all, no matter how good and enlighting is the topic in the book. It's good to know that the author doesn't dismiss this disease as a just simple "Change your mindset and decide to be happy and you will", as almost everyone thinks, is the right approach. I won't read this book because I'm sensitive and won't do me any good. With the review was more than enough. Good job with it.

I think this is a heart-wrenching but necessary book. We can't just close our eyes to what teenagers, in this case, are going through. We should strive to understand in order to be able to help.
I can't say I fully agree with the Christian angle this book has, but I respect it and I'm not going to dare criticize someone who is, ultimately, helping in the best way she knows. Her job is admirable and I'm glad this book lets us share her journey and the one of all these suffering people.
I agree information should be updated.
Great review, thanks.

I usually do not like self help books but this title (and content) hits really close to home for me. I may have to give this one a try based on that alone. I was disappointed to hear that all the statistics are so outdated though, things have changed a ton in the last 30 years.

From a sampling, this was a very heartfelt collection of letters and works where the reader can feel the emotions of both the author and the senders. Well done.

It kind of sucks that it is so, but when we think our lives are crappy, there are a lot of people out there who have it far worse.

Thanks for the thorough review. This book sounds very intense. I'm not sure whether I'll read it. But this seems invaluable to the modern society, with the number of suicide attempts and suicides we hear everyday. I have to agree with you about needing more works like this.

This book is so in depth and completely changes your thinking. This is a great review especially how you used the various quotes for emphasis. I like that

Stepping Up by donalyn Powell

The author makes it clear that God always answers prayer but this will happen only when we pray, wait, and listen. This makes the book interesting before going on and reading what is inside the book.

Chapters of the book contain good illustrations and this is good become they give people interest to read on especially when they properly connects to the story like in this book. And what is touching in chapter three is don't give up..

I have rated this book 3 out of 4 because every chapter of the book is connecting to what is promised in the table of contents and the teachings are all centred on encouraging the believer to draw closer to his/her God. It is a book worth reading.

The author and by extension the book is a gem for the help and support it provides to potential suicide victims and their families. It helps highlight a problem that is increasingly becoming common due to our lifestyle and its attendant problems. Thanks for your wonderful review.

Thank you for your very thorough review. However, it does not sound like a book I would be interested in.

I don't typically go for self-help books, and I doubt this one would be for me since I'll probably fall to pieces as soon as I read some of these poems and letters. It sounds like a very powerful and heart-wrenching book, and although it is probably not for me, I feel hopeful to know there are books like this one out there to give young people the strength and support they need to keep going. The rise in teen suicide is a heartbreaking tragedy in today's world, and hopefully those looking for help will find it.
