Wow, I just love the way you express the impact this book left on you. I was blown away by the sample - the rawness of it all. I didn't expect much but I ended up with tears in my eyes haha. Though I feel a little queasy about the harsh conditions that Davin faces, your enthusiasm gives me that push I need.

Seems like a true story with a difference. A mother's love comes through to highlight the difficult life of her son, Davin in prison. The focus also on prison and need for reform is also eye-opening. Wonderful review.

Everyone is facing their own battles, but this one of Davin's and his mother is heartbreaking. Thanks for the review.

Woow. This is so touching and enlightening. Do I need to prepare tissues before dipping into this book? Lol. I don't think I'm prepared for a tear-jerker read but atill gonna add this in my list. Thank you for reviewing this.

A story that inspires. Someone getting imprisoned for life for a crime they haven't committed is always a painful subject - but one which makes us want to read further to know if justice is served.

It also serves up a good lesson on how you handle adversity is the best indication of your true nature.

This book will surely be interesting to read as it holds two points of view. Prison life is never easy and I look forward to seeing how the author's son survived. Congrats on BOTD.

Thank you for your review. I am very interested in the prison system. From your review, this book seems like a good account of the harms caused by a flawed system.

I think that this book will serve as an insider's look into how having a minor in prison affects the entire family.

Reaching the Shore by Davin Jake Douma and Bonnie Jane Hall is the true inspiring story of Davin who got a life sentence for murder at 16. Little did Davin know that through the horrific turn of his young life, his journey to his true destiny had just begun. In prison, Davin learned to survive and grow by getting along with others and turning to reading, education and martial arts. He became a motivational speaker to become the best person he could be and can still become. I'm glad to read from Charlaigne's review that the book was written from the point of view of Davin's mother, Bonnie Jane Hall, and that instead of offering excuses for her son, Ms. Hall provides in the book a profound, moving account of Davin's recovery, reform and rehabilitation, and the healing of her family from the ordeal. Congratulations on this book becoming the Book of the Day and an inspiring Christmas to all of us!

It's always good to open our minds to new things. And knowing how the correctional and justice system is working is one of them. A story told from the view of a convict's mom and his incarcerated son. I have mixed feelings about this one because of the violence. But I will give it a try since the review finds it inspiring. Congratulations on BOTD.

This book sounds very emotional, and it is novel to hear from the convicted murderer's family's perspective. You never know what they think of it all or how it has emotionally affected them. I'm not so sure I have the heart to read it right now, but I'll try and keep it in mind for when I am. Thank you for the helpful review.

Sounds like a book with heavy content. I can't imagine being given a life in prison sentence at age 16. That's just so sad. My heart feels really heavy and I haven't even read the book yet.
