In my family, we have an old recipe for pumpkin bread that we've perfected. It involves cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. It's very good.

I know! In all seriousness though my husband gives me looks like I am out of my mind when I talk about the homeopathic side of spices and herbs.

You know, I can't pronounce "basil." It's a mental glitch. I say it like buh-ZILL. I can't break the habit, either.

Nothing. Why would you ever ask a question like that?

Thanks for the review, maybe the good response will encourage the author to work on a longer, more detailed version. I was raised with homeopathy and natural remedies, and my mom often expounded the health benefits of the many spices she cooked with, and the many herbs in our garden. So true what you say about Western medicine! It has a lot to answer for :( When people get a headache these days they just pop a pill without thinking "Oh, maybe I'm just dehydrated", and drink some water... Not to mention doctors plying everyone with antibiotics. Sigh. Anyway, good review, I'm off to make me some lemongrass tea :)

Nice review! Since being diagnosed with high cholesterol (in spite of regular exercise and an almost-vegetarian diet, sigh) I have become interested in natural ways to improve my health. I am not presently on medication and wish to stay that way, and I am interested in learning if there are any spices that could with my condition. I will have to read this one!

I don't remember reading that any of the five spices discussed help to lower cholesterol, but a bit of research may yield good results. There is probably an herb or spice that helps with this.

Hello Zeldas,

Just wanted to recommend about cinnamon, it can consumed in as tea ingredient. :D
Its really tasty with lots of health benefits, to name a few - Reduces Cholestrol - good for heart, Helps in Weight loss, also has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties.

Putting cinnamon in tea--I've never thought about that! I like exotic teas myself, and they'd probably be great with cinnamon! Thanks for the tip. My dad drinks it unsweet at restaurants, but usually not at home. :|
