I'm not really into memoirs but I occasionally enjoy it. I'm not sure if this book is for me but I'll add this in my TBR so that if I'm in the mood for books like this, I'd just dive into it. Thanks for the recommendation.

I think it's a beautiful sentiment that the author wanted to pay tribute to her loving, dedicated, hard-working father with this book. I think it was a good decision to have the narrative read conversationally, as it sounds like that assists the overall "hometown" feel of James' life. Thanks for a great review.

Memoirs give more insight into a person, especially if that person is a family member. Thanks for sharing.

I like Jimmy's story. I can never tire to read or hear stories of average people with nothing but wisdom and hard work doing great in life. It's something that seems to speak to me directly. Thanks for a wonderful review.

This memoir sounds very engaging, especially the conversational tone. Really, I don't mind sentence fragments so long as they work stylistically. The story might be common, but even a common story can be interesting and inspiring. It's also sweet that the author wrote this to honor her father and help teach others the lessons he learned, so this book might be worth the read. I don't really have time for it right now, but I'll keep it on my "to read" list. Thank you for the thorough review.

I sampled the book on Amazon. This is a memoir of an inspirational father (James “Jimmy” Mathis) written by his daughter. James had the tendency to give to others as much as he could. As mentioned in the review by Stacie k, this book will be enjoyed by people who love inspirational stories.

I am not into memoirs. But a book that is made to give honor and respect to the author's father’s life and to document it so that others may follow his example, is a book worth reading as I am doing the same with my late father's legacy. So I identify with this book. Thanks for the free copy and congratulations on BOTD.

Like Saving Summer in a Jar by Amy Mathis is a memoir of the life of the author's father, James "Jimmy" Mathis. She was surprised to learn from friends and strangers how positively he had influenced other people's lives. This book captures his legacy based on his transformation from a boy living in difficulty, growing up highly educated in the field of science, succeeding in his career and most importantly in his private life as a father and husband. This is about a man from rural America who succeeded and then gave back to his community. He is also a stickler to traditional family values as the basis for his way of life and decisions. I'm glad to read reviewer stacy k's support of the book. She just recommends another round of editing. She writes: "Like Saving Summer in a Jar is an easy-to-read, heartwarming, and inspiring memoir." While the memoir is a serious look at James' values, it has also many touching and lighthearted moments of his life.

A simple, realistic book full of tender moments and enduring wisdom. You are right in stating that it is not too special or outstanding, yet we always find satisfaction and worthy lessons in such stories. I'm going to check this book out, and thank you for this lovely review.

Not a great fan of memoir nor reading a lot of it but I'd certainly consider this one because the author's father sounds like someone who live a full life with inspiration and wisdom.
