I’ve been in the church all my life, and a pastors kid for much of that time. I know church politics can be a very hard thing to navigate. I think this book would be interesting, although I don’t know if I’d want to read about something I have to deal with every day (now as a pastors wife.) I may have to give this one a try, though. Thanks for the great review!

The book sounds interesting. The author beautifully covers the element of religious fanaticism in churches.

I'm glad this Christian couple's story reveals the often unnecessary dogmatism of certain religions and the authoritarian turn that keeps driving people away from genuine faith. The intimate first-person narration seems to perfectly fit the author's intentions. Thanks for your review!

I am curious to find out about "Calvinism" and "Complementarianism" which Amanda and Gordon Farmer encountered in "Once An Insider, Now Without a Church Home".

This is a thought-provoking issue.

This book must not have been an easy write for the author. The Kindle sample would not have been able to divulge much but this detailed review gives one an idea that this journey must have been bumpy, but I'm sure relatable to many who may have questions about their faith.

It's sad how the Christian couple find themselves marginalized after dedicating their time in church. I will think about reading it because Once An Insider, Now Without a Church Home by Amanda Farmer sounds fantastic. Great review.

"Once An Insider, Now Without a Church Home" by Amanda Farmer is a thought-provoking memoir that chronicles the Farmer couple's faith crisis.

Thanks for the review.

I'm agnostic, so from a religious standpoint, I don't have any interest in this book. However, I am interested to see how politics--for a lack of a better term--play out in a church, i.e. how a hierarchy might form, how valued members can become outsiders or entirely ousted, etc. It is odd that the author mentions her daughter so little, but maybe it makes more sense in the context of the book itself. Thank you for the helpful review.

As a Christan, the storyline makes a little sad. But I can't say that this doesn't happen in some churches. Some people are so busy trying fit in with the church that they will turn their backs on others.

It is hard to invest time and energy into growing something only to be pushed away from it. It is easy to get disillusioned. This sounds like an interesting read. Thanks for the great review!
Rightly said. It is heart breaking to be pushed away and treated wrongly for what you gave all your hard work. This is a great review highlighting all the important points about the book.

Thanks for the great review, it is sadly true that this is not a isolated incident but more common than we realize. I think I understand why the author decided to only mention her daughter in passing, mentioning her more often might have shifted the focus of the book to her family instead of the situation in the church. I hope that this book will have a great impact and will motivate people to look for solutions instead of leaving the church altogether.

This could be an informative read for anyone who wants to know about the changes that have happened in the practice of Christianity over time, which has been questioned by thoughtful minds. However, since there is too much detailing, I am not sure if I will go with this one. Thank you for the review!

I like that the author didn't not lash out against the people who hurt her and instead tries to be as objective and reasonable as possible. Nice review.

This book appears not to be completely about religion and the author seems to have written this book with compassion towards those who have hurt her. A book that will benefit many people, as there are many churches that do this to their members.

I like this book because of the relationships among the different church members it explores. It explores how he's been kicked out of a church he helped establish. Thanks for the review.
