This sounds like a moving and emotional memoir. It’s good to hear that there is some comedy included from the author to help break up the harrowing parts of the book. Thanks for a great review.

This must be a very emotional book to read, already the review gave me shivers. I hate to think about situations where parents can be so cruel to their kids - kudos to the author for sharing his life like this, and for even using humor in descriptions of very dark situations.

Lewis Kempfer’s memoir is an inspiring book that reveals how he suffered loneliness and depression since childhood, and then overcome his hurdles with determination. He underwent a miserable life deprived of fatherly bond with his biological and stepfathers. Nice review, Jgideon. Thanks,

Thanks for the thorough review. It seems like this would be a difficult book to read. It's interesting that he uses humor to compensate for the horrible scenes - almost as if he believes that some people might not be able to handle the scene as it is or, as a means to distance himself from the scene.

I'm no fan of memoirs, nor of religious books unless they are of a historical nature. So I won't be reading this book. However, the writing style is excellent and I admire the author for wearing his personal history on his sleeve. I wish him great success in finding an appreciative reading audience.

Thanks for the review! It seems like a bit of an intense read in terms of upsetting content, but knowing that the author approaches it with light and humor to get through it makes me much more willing to give it a shot.

This very emotional memoir would be a good book to make bad parents read. It would teach them the impacts their bad behavior has on their children. Thank you for your review.

I know several people that would benefit from reading this book! My own father was strict but not abusive, and I got a whipping everyday when I was young, and I deserved every one, as I was a horrible child. My dad had a technique of giving me a lecture while he trimmed down a switch with his knife. The lecture was actually worse than the switching, and I would be in tears long before the first lick was ever landed.

Twice I saw friends of mine badly beaten by their fathers. I was terrified and all I could think to do was turn around and leave. So the book pulls those old memories out of me after all these years, from places deep within, where I thought they were hidden.

This is definitely a book that I will enjoy reading!

This book is exactly how a normal person describes his journey. Not any over exaggerations nor any dramatic or cheesy moments. So loved it because it was honest. :D

I love memoirs, especially when they deal with heavy subjects such as addiction so I'd definitely like to read Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life. Thank you for your great review!

A beautifully penned review. I am not a big fan of tragic memoirs as they seem to affect me too much personally , but from the review ; it does appear that the author has mellowed down such instances using light hearted humor. However I did feel an occasional stance of Christianity and religious comments being mentioned in the book via this review. I feel that could have been mentioned as a disclaimer to readers in this review as well.

Life can really be hard to the extent you hate living. It's too bad for the author who encountered all this sufferings. This memoir is really interesting, full of life lessons. I had always liked this genre. Great review!
