It's sad that ever since we ended up in Afghanistan after the 9/11 attacks, we have all had to endure the opioid epidemic and with it, the introduction of fentanyl. No longer is drug addiction only found in the poor neighborhoods or in the neighborhoods of minorities. This is now something that touches everyone. Everyone knows someone who either is or is related to a drug addict. It's a sad state of affairs and too much attention could never be brought to the problem. People need to be well aware of it, so they can train their children to never fall victim to such a miserable existence.

The sad fact is that an addict's world is not only their own but also that of those who love and care for them. I found this selection personally meaningful, knowing parents who have lost sons and daughters to addiction. My heart goes out to this mother and family. Thank you for a great review!

The book is very interesting, it is a non fiction history. The author speak about his son David who takes drugs.Mrs Patricia street has a big courage to say, what happen , with David and how all members of families suffer about this bad situation. Nowadays, the world has changed and with stress, sometimes family problem( Divorce....)give to children a chance to use something like drugs who give health problem and something horrible, for example : accident etc...The parents become not happy for this situation. Many thanks for a well review

Thank you for your wonderful review. It must be heartbreaking to see your son go through all he did, but hopefully writing this book was therapeutic. I did like how she was so honest about the positives and negatives that everyone had done. I think it's sad when we are embarrassed by our family when they aren't "perfect" but I don't believe anyone's family is. I think this book would be difficult for me to read, so I will pass.

Thanks for your review. I'm sorry for Patricia's loss. This story shows that addiction can never be a good thing in life.

This non-fiction book brings the problems that the author, her family, and David suffered because of David's addiction. He was introduced to opiates at an early age and later experimented other drugs. Congrats on BOTD to the author! Thanks for the review!

Patricia Street "protected" her son for too long. She applied though love when it was already to late. I think this could be an appropriate read for every parent or future parent.

A touching, relatable and heart-warming book. This book is recommended to people struggling with their drug intake and likewise, to people who try hard to gather themselves for their loved ones.

This book is a memoir written by Patricia street on how she lost her son due to drugs which he was introduced to after an accident. It is a very relatable and heart-warming book as they go through the journey of not just helping David heal, but also deal with having the strength to help him heal.

A book about substance abuse that began after 15-year-old David Streets had an accident that led to amputation of one of his toes. He received morphine at the hospital to relieve the pain but this introduced him to opiates. David began experimenting with other drugs and settled on heroin in his twenties. David loved writing and he wrote short stories and journaled on a regular basis. David's journal entries are featured in the first part of this book while his mother wrote the second part of the book to share the day-to-day struggles that she, David and the rest of the family went through as a result of David's addiction. She used this book as her outlet for grieving the loss of her beloved son David. Being a parent, I cannot imagine the horror and grief Patricia went through and I realized that I would be devastated if one of my daughters had developed a drug addiction. Very good review of a book that all members should read.
