Your review is very useful! I sampled the first few pages depicting the escape from the troubled Afghanistan, and although I am yet to read the episodes about the better past of this country, like you, I liked the story. I agree with you that the cover is very well thought out too. I too would rate this book all stars.

The book's charm and interesting nature emanates from its insider perspective. I find it intriguing to delve into the books of individuals who have genuinely overcome traumatic experiences, and Nazila Sawhney's lens provides a humanizing depth to the exploration of the past.

Hi @Anusha Thatavarthi, I also felt it was a very good review and I want to read the book to learn more about the old Afghanistan which was so much better than the Taliban run country today. If Nazila was still in Afghanistan today her granddaughters would not be allowed to go to school and the job market for Nazila and all women would be terrible. @Mrlefty0706

I loved this captivating review as it effectively captures the emotional essence of "Once Upon a Time in Afghanistan," intertwining the reviewer's reflections with a nuanced analysis of the book's narrative strengths. The review serves as a poignant exploration, drawing parallels between the author's survival story and the ongoing global conflicts, making it particularly resonant for readers seeking insight into the complex realities survivors face.

Once Upon a Time in Afghanistan promises a poignant journey from a survivor's lens. Nazila Sawhney's narrative delicately balances the traumatic events of escape from Afghanistan with the warmth of her childhood memories.

I am intrigued by what Afghanistan looked like in the 1980s, and how Nazila's family managed to escape from the nation's conflict. Gladly, she discloses it to inspire others. I love your beautiful review, Seetha!

Thànkyou for your review! I'm intrigued by the plot, the gruelling struggles it contains and the inspiration it lends to the readers. The region has seen a lot of conflict, so can't imagine what traumas the author's young mind may have borne. Looking forward to reading this book.

Your mention of the book shedding light on the other side of the story, offering an insider's perspective, is compelling. The fact that it provides a sense of closure for your grief and reinforces positive beliefs adds a personal touch to the recommendation. It's refreshing to hear that the book surpasses expectations, even if the focus shifts to events in the 1980s.

I don't usually go for memoirs but nowadays they seem to be on the top of their game. Reading about Afghanistan before the wars started is fascinating, and getting information from the person who lived there before all happened is something else. Thanks Seetha for this review.
