The name of the psychiatrist sounds very odd. No wonder he worsened the situation. I don't think I'll be interested in this book.

I am intrigued with the words unimaginable things the reviewer mentioned. That being said I am looking forward to digging into this novel to find out how Lewis will rise up from the brutality he suffered from the hands of what he thought was his family. I commend the author for his daring and courage in sharing his experiences. With the promise of timely and relevant issues in life today like discrimination, anxiety and depression, this book is surely a winner. Congrats!

From your review, this appears to be a gut-wrenching read so I think I'll pass, many thanks.

However, I must say that Lewis is so incredibly brave to have written this honest and soul-baring memoir about his life. As a fellow Christian, I'm glad he has accepted Christ and I pray he finds the peace of mind and happiness that he truly deserves.

Lewis' situation is a clarion call for redefined parenting from parents and would-be parents. An emotional memoir indeed! Despite the emotional undertone, this book can make a good read. Insightful review. Congrats.

As a bisexual with anxiety and depression, whose father is also quite awful, this one really caught my eye. Life hasn't been nice to me either, but I think it'll do me good to read a memoir of someone who went through similar or maybe even worse obstacles as I did. For that, I salute the author for sharing his story with us.

Life can indeed be unfair sometimes. Some people are so unlucky, most of them have gone through a series of unfortunate events. I wonder how life decides to be unjust to other people, especially at their younger age, where they have no control over such circumstances. This is a book I would read.

This book is definitely not for everyone. While it can be very moving, it can also be very triggering or depressing for other people. The hardships that the author faced sound devastating, and I admire his strength. It's sad to imagine that there are probably other families like this out in the world. Thanks for sharing your review!

A great review . Parents and guardians can actually learn some great lessons from the unfortunate things that happened in the Author's life to avoid making the same mistakes in the lives of your children and wards for a better tomorrow .

This memoir seems to be a mirror of different life's struggles. Abuse, drug addiction or sexual inhumane activities are very degrading in someone's life. I can relate to him that life's very, very, very unfair.

Thank you for this review! Interesting to see that Lewis still keeps strong in his religious faith despite the potentially painful connections to his harmful family. Often, it's the ones who are meant to help and support us that can cause the most harm. I hope writing this memoir was healing for him!

"Although his parents were religious, their parenting techniques did not reflect the teachings they got from attending church every other Sunday". It must have been very tough for the author. It's a good thing to know that he has found comfort into this religion now.

I like the boldness of the author to recount all the horrible things that have happened to him.

The review and the free sample correlates very well. This book is very difficult for the average reader to digest. The level of cruelty meted out to the author is devastating. I found it difficult to comfortably read some of the experiences especially the ones from his childhood. The author was deeply wounded psychologically from a tender age and his description of his feelings is explicit.

Wow. Sounds like a riveting, heart-breaking story. Glad to hear it's professionally edited. Too many authors overlook that (very important!) point. I think I'll be taking a pass, though. It sounds very moving, but very sad.

Kempfer has had a tough life. I could only imagine how strong and brave he is to be able to recount his life’s ordeals in this memoir.
