I am an Indian and us( Pakistan and India), being neighbours and at one time we were one country, before we achieved independence. In fact my grandparents migrated from Pakistan to India after partition. So I am very well versed with their culture as there are lot of similarities - language, food, and what not. I can actually understand and empathize with Victoria given the current scenario. I would love to read this as I can relate to lot of things culturally. I am not saying we are similar but there are similarities and understanding. Great review!

Discrimination of any kind is unbearable and quite detrimental to one's self estimate. It takes great strength to come out and share about one's experience of it. I appreciate the effort of the author in sharing about this sensitive topic.

It talks about subjects most people stay away from but this one seems to have a lot to say about what's happening. I think Victoria’s life will be interesting to read and learn about.

:tiphat: Victoria is a fabulous character. The authenticity with which the authors present the evil of Pakistani society is captivating. This is a very informative review.

This character Victoria must have had such a difficult childhood. Especially after there was a coup in Pakistan, her life must have been so hard. I am glad that this author chose to talk about this form of religious persecution. I also like your good review. Thanks.

Thank you for the review. I was very impressed reading of the presentation of the Pakistani assemblage and sneak peeks into their way of life. It brought me great pain however, to see how the rape victims and religious minority were treated in some foreign lands but, seeing that I've not been living under a rock my whole life, it did not come as much of a shock. I just hope the book garners enough clarity to the readers on how a lot of their decisions, while for good or as part of a culture, end up affecting their neighbors and those they love, way more than it does themselves. The drafting process by the author was also done splendidly as even while Victoria was a victim of a lot of discrimination and ostracization, they still manages to show her human flaws and strike outs. I am really glad this book made it as the book of the day. It really needs more attention!

I already know Pakistan's cruelty on women, and so I want to read Victoria's story more. Thanks for the beautiful review.

This is my type of novel. I like novels that depict reality. I especially love novels based on true stories. I feel the connection is better, and I can learn more from them. I am definitely reading this. I like how your review covered the deep-rooted themes of this novel. Well done!

Thanks for the excellent review! The book sounds intriguing, but I have a hard time reading books where someone is mistreated! It sounds like Victoria went through so much! Christian persecution makes me angry. We all have a right to our own beliefs. I am going to pass on this one.

This seems like an amazing story, and the fact that it is a true story takes it to another level. I feel sorry for the little girl and how she's had to suffer so much. Quite an endearing story. THanks for sharing the review!

This is such an emotional story about a young girl who grew up in the midst of a religion different from hers. I can somewhat relate to Victoria, though not being a Christian myself. The culture of Pakistan shows that tradition overwhelms religion even when it concerns the rights of women and girls.
