This sounds like an emotional memoir of the author's experiences throughout her life. The author's determination and bravery in discussing and sharing her trauma and recovery regarding sensitive topics like sexual abuse is inspiring. However, I find it hard to keep up with non-linear flow as it moves between past, present, and future. Thank you for such an informative review.

Thank you for your review. I will keep this book on my reading list for a later time. The issues Ouellette faced and her memories are a bit much for me right now. Also, jumping around the timeline takes paying attention, something I don't have at the moment. Congratulations on BOTD!

I absolutely loved the intense voice and tone bringing the author’s past selves alive; additionally, they showed which stage of her life is being presented. Four-year-old Ouellette speaks in a perfect preschooler lingo; whereas, her teenage self is more grounded in her thoughts.

I've always admired authors who are able to do this. It takes an enormous amount of talent for an adult author to recreate a genuine childlike or teenage voice. And I applaud the author's courage to open even the darkest parts of her past for us.

I don't typically read memoirs, so this isn't the book for me. But from reading the first part, I can attest that this book was beautifully written. Just consider the following words of the author: "Doorways are formed by tree branches arching overhead. You can step under them into new worlds. You can even slip through on accident." Just beautiful. Congratulations to Ms. Ouellette on her achievement and for being awarded BOTD.

It is entirely commendable to the author for her vivid memories that has brought this book to life. The author shares her life story (the good and the bad) in a non linear form that adds depth and suspense to the story. Congrats on the BOTD!

Memoirs are great tools for teaching and counselling. Though some details may be grotesque or unbearable for readers. Memoirs offer an individual the chance to share their experiences from their own point of view. Therefore I am interested in reading what the author has to share.

Just from reading the review, I 've observed that Ouellette is a strong woman. Even though I don't appreciate books containing pedophilia and sexual abuse, I would love to know more about the ordeals of Ouellette. Congratulations on BOTD.
