I also enjoyed how the author uses his personal sorrow to explore wider themes, such as his relationship with God. Both Rachael and Carys have strong religious beliefs, but the author finds his own faith shaken by events as he struggles to understand and accept what is happening. In the end, he confesses that he can see no rhyme or reason in the deaths of his wife and daughter. He finds himself asking: ‘Would it have spoilt some great eternal plan to have let them live, God?’ (Page 189)
I know what you mean. Every time I've lost someone near, which has been way too often, my relationship with God has changed for better or worse. I'm confident many people will relate to this, and other aspects of grief, that are described in this book.
Thank you for your great review!

:P Richard Rees is so strong for reliving those grief moments by writing this book. I'm glad that humor was found in between sad stories. Thanks for the honest review.

This is such a well-written review. I feel like I already know the book. I'm not one for sad stories, but the concept of a long drawn-out letter as the backbone of the book sounds quite interesting.

It is an incredibly touching story and the book has the noble purpose of telling the story of a mother for her daughter. Would love to try it and I hope it will reach the right person. Congrats!

Sometimes a good story, explanation, or memories can come through storytelling or a memoir like in this case. A grieving grandfather keeps his granddaughter abreast of a lot that happened when she was younger. Ovarian cancer, like all others, can be deadly. Thank you for this review that examines our existence and its upheavals, sometimes caused by death. I hope that when Abigail eventually reads the book, she will understand and appreciate what went down. Congratulations BOTD.

This book is so heart breaking. Having the author write about his daughter, write to his granddaughter about a woman she would be to young to remember. It's both heartwarming and heartbreaking. I'm happy he had the strength to write it, to share his family's story, and to give the royalties to ovarian cancer research.

I'm glad you let us know that this book isn't all heartbreak and that there are moments of humour. I often find that I can read and enjoy tragic books if they are balanced with light-hearted moments. Great review!

It seems to be a very emotional book. Personally, I really like books of this type because the reality of life can be moving. Seeing that other people have gone through difficult situations and overcome them is very inspiring. It is seen that this book will be very useful for many people. Thank you for sharing the review with us.

A heart touching biography "Dear Abigail" by Richard Rees which shares his experiences through a study of loss, love, and religious belief. I want to check out this one.
life is only knowing the unknown, we can do this by reading books easily- Online book club is a great place for this. This is what I believe.

This would be a difficult book to read. My heart goes out to Richard for experiencing loss not once but twice. Writing a letter to Abigail and telling her about her mother is a very sweet gesture. Hope these letters help her when she gets older.

Before one can even go further reading you can just sense that sadness of a mother and the love they have for their daughters and family, I am one of those emotional people and I think this book is a hit and I will be reading it everyday until the end, thanks to the author and hope all goes well and God bless you heal and move on.

I have seen families crumbling under the curveball called cancer, which life throws at them. I have lost a close relative to cancer too. So, this book is something that appealed to me on a different level. The sample chapters are filled with life and show the story of - those who are left behind. The 'other kind of cancer survivors' are those who are left to survive without their loved ones.
I loved the sample and would surely be reading it!
