I see a lot of people love playing chess, but to me, it has never caught my interest enough to want to play it. By reading "Chess Strategies for Beginners" I hope I'll get tips and have that interest to want to learn and play it. I'm glad the book is free and I have obtained a copy of it. Thanks, author, and congratulations on your book being BOTD!

Chess Strategies for Beginners" by Eric H. Schuelke is a guidebook with various playing strategies in the game of chess. "Chess is often called "the gymnasium of the mind." Regularly engaging with chess, even as a beginner, can help improve cognitive skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, concentration, and memory." I always felt like chess is not my cup of tea so am going to skip this one. Congrats on BOTD!!

Your review is very interesting, Mayang! Unlike you, I am not even a casual chess player but I know the basics because my dad and grandpa had taught me when I was a child. I had never taken to the game, but this book spurs me at least to read it! Sampling, I liked the simple, easy-to-understand language and well-structured explanations that entice readers to try this complex game.

The chapters of the book gives a clear picture of how the book is beneficial to aspiring chess beginners. For parents who don't know to play Chess but wish to teach for their kids, this book is a good deal.

I have never liked games like chess and sudoku. This is not because I don't think they are fun, but because I have been unable to learn them. "Chess Strategies for Beginners" by Eric H. Schuelke promises useful knowledge of the game, and I can't wait to read it.

As a casual chess player, I was drawn to this book when I saw it and decided to pick it up. "Chess Strategies for Beginners" is a walkthrough guide that includes helpful chess tips for both novice players looking to master the game and experienced players looking to improve their skills. If you fall into any of these categories, you will not be disappointed with this book.

Eric H. Schuelke began this book by providing a brief history of the game. This entailed its origins and the fact that the game has ancient roots in many civilizations. It was interesting to learn this because I had never attempted to learn its history on my own before. The updated information was greatly appreciated. It then went on to discuss how various tactics and strategies were used in the game. Tactics are short-term game plans, whereas strategies are long-term ones. Several opening play patterns were introduced, and they demonstrated how they incorporated the various tactics described. This was made possible because the book had previously explained how to read the board. I liked the simple language used to describe these points because it made the descriptions much easier to understand.

To aid comprehension, graphical images were used to provide a more accurate description. Real-life games from famous chess masters were also used to support his points. The author's extensive knowledge of the subject was evident because of the way he described why some of those moves were made and the benefits they provided. This enabled him to easily explain the various opening and defense strategies while playing on either side of the board. These thorough analyses made me appreciate the amount of research that went into this work.

Chess is a game that requires a lot of practice to perfect your skills. I liked the emphasis on practice because chess is not something you can just read a book about and become an expert at. Taking all of this into account, I give "Chess Strategies for Beginners" 5 out of 5 stars because I could not find anything I did not like about it. As I previously stated, this book would be extremely beneficial to both beginner and expert chess players in terms of improving their game.

**Book Review: "Chess Strategies for Beginners: Rock a Solid Foundation" by Eric H. Schuelke**

Eric H. Schuelke's "Chess Strategies for Beginners: Rock a Solid Foundation" is an excellent resource for novice players eager to enhance their understanding of chess. Schuelke successfully breaks down complex strategies into comprehensible segments, making this book an ideal starting point for beginners.

One of the book's primary strengths is its structured approach. Schuelke begins with the basics, covering essential principles such as controlling the center, developing pieces efficiently, and ensuring king safety. He then seamlessly transitions into more advanced strategies, including opening principles, middle game tactics, and endgame techniques. This progression helps readers build a strong foundation before tackling more intricate concepts.

Schuelke's writing style is clear and concise, which is crucial for a subject as detailed as chess. He uses illustrative examples and diagrams effectively, making it easier for readers to visualize and understand the discussed strategies. Each chapter concludes with practice exercises, allowing readers to apply what they've learned and reinforce their knowledge.

However, while the book excels in providing a solid theoretical foundation, it could benefit from more practical tips on adapting strategies during real gameplay. Additionally, some sections may feel repetitive for those already familiar with basic chess concepts.

Overall, "Chess Strategies for Beginners" is a valuable addition to any novice player's library. Its methodical approach, clear explanations, and practical exercises make it a standout resource for those looking to improve their chess skills.

**Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars**

Schuelke's book is a commendable guide for beginners, laying a robust foundation that will undoubtedly help readers become more confident and strategic players. Despite minor shortcomings, it remains a top recommendation for anyone starting their journey in the world of chess.

Chess has never been a game I was interested in playing, but what I learned from your review is that if I ever change my mind, this will be the first book I go to. The layout of the book sounds like it is well-thought-out and easy for the beginner to grasp and understand. I will be keeping this book in mind if and when the day comes I decide to learn chess.
