I love how the reviewer captures the essence of Monica Carly’s journey in Island in the Sun. It’s fascinating to read how the author’s childhood experiences in Jamaica are portrayed through such vivid descriptions of the culture, food, and environment. I’m intrigued by how the contrast between England and Jamaica is highlighted, showing the adjustments Monica and her family had to make. The inclusion of photos adds a personal touch, making me even more interested in experiencing this rich, immersive story. :tiphat:

Another real life story giving a first hand perspective of Jamaican culture and experience in the 19s. A book like this is what I prefer. Congrats to the author.

This book appears nitty gritty portrayals of Jamaica's nourishment, culture, and history, at the side the differentiating portrayals of Jamaica and Britain, is well-articulated. Highlighting the new point of view of Monica and the consideration of pictures upgrades the request. Congrats on BOTD.

Love your review. Jamaica sounds like a lovely place. The story about a family moving to a new country. This is very interesting, and I am excited to read this book. I cannot wait to find out what all her and her brother are able to get into. She mentions in the sample that she was never bored on the long boat ride because she had her brother to accompany her. Also having a little sister, I am sure these three have some stories to share.

I was immediately drawn in by the author's conversational tone! I am so glad that she found the impetus to write this memoir of her teen years living in Jamaica after growing up in England. What a change in culture and surroundings! Her detailed descriptions are fluid and create vivid images. I wanted more even from the prologue!

Definitely not my cup of tea, because I like to read fiction since it takes my mind from harsh reality and, no matter the genre, you can always convince yourself it is just the author's imagination. Biography and memoirs don't offer such luxury, so I would like to skip.

Well-written review! Memoir isn't my thing, but a narrative about Jamaica through the eyes of a child would make a great read. Congratulations on BOTD!
