This sounds like an entertaining and amusing read with kids' thought processes working on it. The concept is interesting and the sample read is promising. Thank you for your great review!

Lighthearted and entertaining, "What Did They Say?" by Todd Sherman is a delightful collection of quotes from children gathered over many years and from classrooms. While anyone looking for a good laugh will enjoy this book, parents and teachers—who spend the most time around kids—will find it especially relatable and amusing.

"What Did They Say?" by Todd Sherman is a hilarious and heartwarming collection of quotes from eighth-grade students that perfectly captures their quirky, offbeat humor. A must-read for parents, teachers, and anyone who loves a good laugh. Congratulations on being BOTD!

What Did They Say?: Observations from Eight-Grade Students by Todd Sherman seem to be a fun book tailored for children of different grades. It is certainly worth reading. Congratulations on the book of the day.

Indeed, even learners in high school would enjoy traveling down memory lane and laughing at their own sayings. It is great to read that the author is still in contact with some of the students after all the years that have passed and this is one of the pointers of being an exceptional educator. I cannot wait to read this book and find out more about the quotes included.
Many thanks for the review, @Tasha Marie Poole Sullivan.

Nice review! I found the quotes both interesting and humorous. Sometimes children say the oddest things. I will have to finish the rest of the book when I need a good laugh.

What a delightful review! I love how you connected your personal experiences as a parent and your mom’s stories as an eighth-grade teacher to the book—it really brings out why this collection of quotes resonates so deeply with you. The way you describe giggling from the first chapter and getting caught up in the kids’ quirky, sarcastic comments makes me eager to dive into this book myself. It’s heartwarming to hear how Todd Sherman balances humor with genuine care for his students, and the fact that they still keep in touch with him years later says so much about the kind of teacher he must have been. I’m sold on giving this a read—sounds like the perfect lighthearted escape!

Once again, I get evidence of how lucky I was with my kids, because in all the years growing up they never acted out or caused trouble. Don't ask me how I managed this, but my kids are well-read and decently behaved. I know nothing about what this book is and have no interest in finding out. Sorry and congrats with BOTD, anyway!

'I found myself turning from one page to another quickly as I got caught up in the funny, sometimes sarcastic, and often off-the-wall things the kids said. I had to make myself slow down and even go back and re-read some parts so that I did not miss anything.'
A comedy book thall make me feel this way is always welcome.

Good stuff, right here. I know this type of thing has been done before, most notably on TV, but you really can't get enough of this type of humor. I applaud the author for compiling the quotes and adding commentary along the way. Nicely done!

This book is full of quotes by children probably trying to find their grounds in the literary world. it's mostly going to feel earnest and original and would help other children build confidence in themselves.

Thank you for your great review. I'm glad you enjoyed the book, as I also enjoyed the sample. We can all say silly things at times. It's sometimes amazing what young teens say and are very serious about it. I enjoyed that it was funny and very easy to read, and they weren't making fun of anyone, just laughing along with the person. I have added it to my list of books to read as I can always use some humor in my life.

Thank you for the review. I read the sample. This is a fun book to read as the teacher and the children have a wonderful relationship. I liked all the quotes and the back story. It is a delightful read. Congrats to the author for the #BOTD.

Just the kind of comical relief I need after a typical stressful uni day.
Not so long ago, I was also a teacher(albeit highschool) and i have experienced first hand how funny(and not) children/teenagers can be.
So I'll check this as well.
Congrats on BOTD nomination though.
